Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™
As we head into a day of fun and madness, tempered with church and the real reason for teh season, I want to wish all a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2012.
???We all want Bradley to win. If our methods and visions for that are different, then so be it. Don't ever attempt to tell me I am not a fan!???
I just ran across this interesting story on how one little act of kindness can mean so much...especially at Christmas...
this blog is not well written - but the third story tells how an elderly, ill lady fondly remembers a visit she got from Hersey Hawkins when she was in the hospital...
Here's a summary... "It was Christmas Eve 1996, and Chelsea Cripe was a final place any child wants to be on Christmas — a hospital.
At 9 years old..she was stranded in a Seattle hospital....Chelsea remembers a exhaustion. She remembers feeling miserable. She remembers wanting to go home.
The Seattle Sonics (visited the) hospital. (but)...The family was told the Sonics didn’t have time to revisit Chelsea
BUt -- Three players came up: Craig Ehlo, Hersey Hawkins and Steve Scheffler. ...Chelsea remembers them articulate about basketball, their families.
She remembers one (held) her in his lap. He put his shawl on her head. The group asked Chelsea if she wanted anything. She wanted a hamburger.
They told their publicist to get her a Happy Meal.
Today (she is now 26 years old) Chelsea binds on to that memory.
...And she’s smiling."
bingo - Hawk really is a great guy and I am proud that the NBA even noted that -
Hersey Hawkins won the 1999 NBA Sportsmanship Award for his fine character..
