How can I go about proving my fan hood?

Yeah, but I thought Geno mentioned on the post game show after the George Washington game that they run in excess of 60 set offensive plays, and he actually would like to get more in but the inexperience of the team is limiting that right now. I think he probably does want to run more schemes, but this is still a young team with some talent deficiencies that can only master so much at once.

Also, as was stated in an earlier thread, THIS is the offense that he ran at Kent State, and THIS is the offense he apparently is going to live and die with irregardless of whether he has the talent to run it or not. And the reason being is that he is trying to establish his system before he gets all of his recruits in here so that the players returning next year are familiar with it. Plus, we are seeing improvements with the players he has here, so it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility. Then again, he may feel this system better utilizes the talent already here, too. Who knows. I guess there's always two sides to this debate.

First off, I realize that you are going out of the way to state that there are differing opinions about Geno's offense. That being said, I look at the sign of a good coach as a person who recognizes what they have as a team and then devise a scheme to cater to the strengths of the team. I am of the opinion that Geno's scheme is not a good fit for this team this year. Team stats have proven this so far. Why can he not adjust and install some half court sets? We do not have the depth to have a run and gun offense, so eventually any attempt to run and gun ultimately settles in to a half court situation. I haven't seen any type of change in our half court sets since game 1. It would not be that difficult to do especially after finals are over.

And for those of you out there who may say that coaches do not change schemes during the season, I offer this years Denver Broncos as a prime example.

I don't know how easy it is to change much during the season. Sometimes coaches have to change due to injuries and personnel changes, but it is not easy. I am sure Geno will make some changes with his offense and defense to try to adjust to what gives us the best chances to win as the year goes on. As I have said, those 1 on 1 moves that have worked well for us so far, will get a lot harder against MVC opponents who scout us so much better, and play us at least twice a year. We'll probably see some further tweaking of the offense and defense, but not major changes.

I believe the announcers even made a statement about us not running any set plays, just give the ball to someone and have them try to score. I'm not sure what qualifies them to think they're authorities on coaching either, but it's most definitely more than one person's opinion!

While we're at it.....I'm still wondering why a certain player is still in the starting lineup, but I'm no authority on coaching either, so I'll just trust that he is still the "best player in practice".

I very much liked the Drexel announcers. And yes their announcers made that comment which made me smile, as sadly, they were very much correct with their analysis!

Sorry, but most coaches would disagree. They way most coaches would play with a team that is not a strong outside shooting team is with cutting and passing to get higher percentage shots. Coaches that rely on telling their players to be a ball hog and take the ball 1 on 5 are never very successful.

Are you saying that's what's happening at BU right now? I see players making bad decisions as they try to learn the "flow" of a new system.

YES that is happening right now I see different players taking poor situational shots throughout our games. This should have been corrected by the staff no later than game 4 this year at the latest. IMHO

I am really taken aback by this anti-Walt talk. Surprising really.

This idea that he just drives down the lane for wild and crazy 1-on-5 plays is ridiculous. The guy is shooting 57% from the floor. BY FAR the best on the team among the team leaders.

Taylor has taken the most shots, and is shooting 43%. DSE in next with 96 shots and 40%. Walt has taken 79 shots and made 57%. Really a remarkable percentage for a guard. It is much better than Jordan Prosser who, as a center, shoots 44%. So we really want to "work it inside" for a guy who shoots 44% as opposed to a guard who shoots 57%? Makes no sense to me.

Walt also isn't even leading the team in turnovers. DSE is with 32. Walt has 28 and Taylor has 27. Prosser, who hardly ever actually handles the ball has 25. Considering how often Walt has the ball in his hands I would say he is doing better than BU's other four starters in regards to turning the ball over.

This idea that Walt is a wild and crazy, throw up wild shot, turnover machine is not based at all in reality. I know people hate looking at facts and stats but, just look at them.

What is the reason everyone is so down on Walt? Please help me out. Again, this team has many issues but Walt isnt one of them. He has, IMO, been one of the bright spots in the early going.

Nice try there buschsquirrell... As I have responded to this type of remark from you before on this board, NOBODY is criticizing Walt. However, I and some other people on this thread are criticizing the COACHING STAFF for continuing to play Walt out of position.

Big difference.

Walt is simply doing what is asked of him by the staff without any complaints.

J.Prosser is in his 2nd season and his first season he only spent time screening mostly out front so it is not fair to say he is not a good post player as he needs time to develop into one, I think he has done ok in that he is now being used properly by the new staff, his rebounding totals are good and his scoring will get better.
W.Lemon is doing a great job on the offensive and defensive end and not an easy job for a nother 2nd year player to learn a different position,.
Taylor Brown is playing better then most thought he would after having to sit out a year.
Dse has had some great games to go along with some average ones on offense but he plays great defense consistently.
S.S. is a freshman that will get better with time , J.Crawford has gotten better over the last 3 games.
J.Eastman has come on strong offensively his last 2 games and it is a good thing the coaching staff still had confidence in him because some of you said he could not shoot the 3, players slump and then they break out of it , good for him.
We have now played 10 games and so far we look to be improving as a team so the glass looks more then half full to me.

From the various posts, at least there is still rabid interest, hope, and optimism for BU MBB.

BU players and coaches are not as good as we'd like to see them yet, but, are better than we think they are.

Sounds like the team is playing hard, and improving to the best of their abilities. All we can ask, except, for the current leadership to get better players to BU....

Let's go help them get that big W in Peoria...

PS If JP is only 6'7", was he mis-recruited to be the answer to BU's need for a PF who can dominate in the MVC, or, mis-recruited to be the answer to BU's need for a center who can dominate in the MVC

fwiw A friend of mine introduced me to JP and his family a couple of years ago. I am 6'5 and can tell you without a doubt that JP was a legit 6'8 at that time.

I've never witnessed him being measured, so I can't say anything without a doubt. I just heard from someone who would know that his listed height was a slight exaggeration.

I'm not sure the base stats of most players running full court but Walt ran an inbound pass 1 end zone to the other for a layup in 4 seconds against Drexel.
