The Valley going 5-1 today was good. Creighton lost to a good St. Joe's team. Overall this was a good day for the valley. Would have been better if Creighton won, but still not a bad overall day.

A few stats from games of interest last nite..
Wichita beat Utah State but looked very shaky down the stretch getting outscored in the 2nd half 56-42!!!
A little home cooking on foul differential helped...
Missouri State struggled a bit to put away UALR - Mike Bizoukas - a nice pickup for MSU - had 9 assists, Weems had 14.
WIU beat EIU in their biggest rivalry game - 64-48...and Mo goes to 4-3!!
Who'd have thunk that with all the injuries, MO would have WIU so much further along in rebuilding that EIU is at this point.
I know a few folks on local message boards have been pushing the idea that EIU is poised to break out and that they're doing great - but I think it's high time to call those assessments idioc*y and discredit those who are spinning EIU as anything other than horrible (two of EIU's wins are over lowly non-D-I's)!
UIC needed a late rally to put away visiting NIU who are 0-8!
This is only their 2nd win over a D-I - and they even lost to Quincy in a regialr season game!
I sure hope we look better than this two years into the Howard Moore rebuilding era.
Saint Louis had a scare thrown into them by visiting transitional D-II - Illinois-Springfield. SLU had to rally from behind in the 2nd half to win, and were just 4-23 from downtown. Att. was only 5K, way off from their glory years.
Cuonzo Martin's Tennessee lost to 1-9 Austin Peay!!!!! (74-70)
Tennessee message boards going ballistic -- sure by now fans figure they should hold their home floor against bad mid-majors!
Fans are beginning to bail on CM, wanting him bought out & want Bruce Pearl back!!
Oakland's Reggie Hamilton had 28 and almost helped his team to an upset over Big Ten Michigan.
In Niagara's win over Hartford, Manual Ram Marvin Jordan had 20 pts, 7 asst, 6 steals, and was 6-9 from 3-pt!
Terry Johnson - hailed as the next great point guard at ISU a couple years ago - now transferred to Green Bay - is doing a bit better stat-wise than he did at ISU ..he now has his career averages up to...
3.7 ppg, 0.8 apg, and 15% on 3-pt shooting.
His backcourt mate at ISU, Justin Clark, chose going D-II to Northwest Missouri, and Clark's on an 8-0 team, but he's only 15-59 from the floor (25%), 4-20 from 3pt (20%), 5.6 ppg & 2nd on the team in turnovers
How can USC be so bad? They only scored 41 last nite - and only 15 in the first half at HOME!
Wins over Northridge and Morgan State are about all they have to boast of - and yet they have several 4-star talented players.
It is no surprise that they are drawing fewer than 3000!
UCLA isn't much better -- and they have even MORE talent on paper --
two close wins over lowly mid-majors (Pepperdine & Penn) is all they have to show for a full roster of 4-Star and 5-Star players!Last edited by tornado; 12-12-2011, 10:32 AM.

Also, Oakland is the second team from the Summit League that almost took out Michigan this year, WIU being the other.

WSU had their leading scorer(Kyles with 18 first half points) in foul trouble not even half through the second half. Our 2 major inside players(Hall and Stutz) were also on the bench for much of the second half with 3 fouls.

I was going on the published play-by-play.....did I miss something?
- as here is the play by play and it records only two USU fouls in the final minute -- while Wichita also fouled once in that final minute.
The span I noted was in the heart of the game - from 11:45 when there was a single digit lead to 7:37 when five fouls were whistled on USU and five different WSU guys went to the FT line to make charity tosses...
WSU made only three baskets between 11:30 and 3:49 (at which time it was only a four point margin) and were it not for the 7 FT's the Shox made in that interval, USU would have had the lead at that point, and it becomes a different game.
SIU shot only 28% from the floor... it should be an ugly game when they play us...and SIU can't use the injury excuse since WMU also was missing key players to injury.
In that game, Bloomington's Hayden Hoerdemann did not play due to a ruptured eardrum and Western Michigan's BEST player Flenard Whitfield
did not play due to a severely sprained ankle -- both injuries suffered Friday in practice........

Creighton is #25 in the USA Today / ESPN Poll.
Not sure why they aren't #25 in the AP Poll though. They have the same amount of points as Vandy, who is listed as #25.

Anyway glad to see that Creighton hangs onto the top 25 this week despite the loss to St. Joe's. That shows continued respect for Creighton and also shows that St. Joesph might have their best team in several years, so it may not be a bad loss by the end of the year. Long way to go though.

All things being equal, the home team will usually shoot more free throws than the visiting team.
USU fouled 4 times from 1:26 left in the game til 46 seconds left when WSU extended the lead to 12 and USU stopped fouling.
And I agree with you tornado, the free throws saved us during our scoring drought.
But home cooking would be UConn shooting 44 free throws to 13 for WSU in last years Maui tourney and wsu only losing by 4 .
