Here's a flashback story about the GE College Bowl TV competition that the Bradley team retired as the final UNDEFEATED CHAMPION in 1969...
(they came back from 20 points down in the final minute to beat academic powerhouse Johns Hopkins...)

The article does have one prominent error in it. It says-
The show, originally hosted by Robert Earle and later by Allen Ludden, was a true contest between the smartest and brightest.

That is exactly the opposite of fact. Allen Ludden, who later hosted Password and was married to Betty White, was the first host of The General Electric College Bowl. When he left to host Password, Robert Earle replaced him.

The article also introduces the top video clip saying-
There are a few surviving film clips of the G.E. College Bowl – here’s a clip from 1959. Robert Earle is hosting, and Barnard College is facing UCLA.

That clip from 1959 is Allen Ludden as host. The host seen in the Bradley-Johns Hopkins clip is Robert Earle.

Incidentally, that year Bradley appeared, the 1969-70 TV season, was the last year The GE College Bowl was on TV. And Bradley was the only team that season to win 5 consecutive weeks and retire undefeated with the College Bowl trophy. Thus Bradley is the last team to ever to take home the College Bowl trophy on the TV version of the show.

If anyone ever has a chance to visit the new Hayden-Clark Alumni Center on the Bradley campus (built onto the west side of Bradley Hall), it is well worth it. And you can see the College Bowl trophy there.

There is a fantastic display in the Shaheen Hall of Pride just inside the door on the main level. There is memorabilia and displays from every decade of Bradley's history, including a lot of specific displays dedicated to some of Bradley's sports successes. In the section dedicated to the 1960's there is an area about the undefeated GE College Bowl team of 1969 and the actual College Bowl trophy is on display.
The Hayden-Clark Alumni building is fantastic and was built with funds from the Campaign for a Bradley Renaissance, and specifically with a couple large donations from 2 prominent Bradley alumns Robert Clark and Jerry Hayden.

has made this comment about the NCAA's ruling against Penn State..

"I think all members of the NCAA should be worried about what this means
down the road. This is clearly a precedent that expands the NCAA's
authority over member institutions."

"But for an external organization like the N.C.A.A., which is supposed to
ensure fair and ethical athletic competition, to step in and impose sanctions
against a program for the criminal conduct of people employed by the
university — when that conduct had no effect on athletic competition —
would be a dangerous and unwarranted arrogation of power by an entity that
already has enormous power over colleges and universities."

"The N.C.A.A. should not inflict punishment on these innocent people any
more than the National Academy of Sciences should expel all Penn State
scientists, or the federal government should cancel all grants to Penn State
researchers. Every organization must stay true to its mission, and the mission
of the N.C.A.A. is not to enforce the nation’s criminal laws."


He spoke in reference to his beliefs that NCAA clearly over-stepped their authority as stated in their own bylaws in disciplining a school for issues that had no relationship to athletic activites.

A private school of similar size and status opened a new law school just 6 years ago and gained national notice during the John Edwards trial -- Elon University School of Law. I would contend that they are in an equally competitive environment to BU as they have Wake Forest, Duke, UNC, and others in their own back yard. They are now respected as one of the top schools in the country in many categories. Would the same thing Play in Peoria?
