  • Three-bid league?

How likely do you all think the MVC can get 3 teams in the big dance this year?

    - UNI has a tough game against Milwaukee coming up, but if they win that they can finish out their non-conference with schedule with only one loss.

    - Wichita State has games vs Tulsa and at Utah State, both challenging but winnable games IMO.

    - Creighton is at Saint Josephs and Tulsa but gets Northwestern at home. I think Creighton could enter MVC play undefeated.

I think it all hinges on how Indiana State and Missouri State play during the MVC season. If both those teams do not play well UNI, WSU, & CREI could beat up pretty heavily on the rest of the teams in the conference and enter St. Louis with close to 20 wins each (Creighton most likely with more), and a chance at three teams in the dance. I would be more than happy with a 2 bid league though.
Thinking is the hardest work, that is why so few people do it. -Henry Ford

It's looking pretty good so far for at least two bids this year. A lot more quality non-conference wins by the top tier of teams than we have seen the last few years. The weakness at the bottom of the league keeps us from four and maybe even three bids, unless things fall perfectly into place. But two bids looks real likely, at least at this moment.

I fully expect at least 2 MVC teams in the tourney this year. I think there is a chance we could get as many as three, or even four teams, in the dance if someone other than CU, UNI, or WSU wins in St. Louis. Creighton looks to be unstoppable right now, and will probably get in no matter what happens (provided they don't completely fall apart). I haven't really looked at the schedule for UNI or WSU, but a few more nice wins, and both of them could be making the case for an at large bid as well.

I think it is very possible to get three teams in this year. It appears CU,WSU and UNI seem to be the class of the league presently. Now if someone other then those three win the Tourney WSU or UNI might get the dagger. Don't think we will see four but it would be nice.

I loved Coach Ford's comment at the luncheon yesterday."Good news out of Creighton, the McDermits are not planning to have anymore children." Maybe he will leave for the NBA after this season and level the playing field for the rest of us. I'm including us because it will get better.

          Let's list by scenario:

5% - Utopia. The 4 bid scenario where the top 3 all separate and someone like InSU crashes the party. We get 4 in, send a team to the final four and another to the sweet 16, MSU wins the NIT, and Billy Packer gets gunned down in a back alley.

25% - Return to relevance! 3 bids, with Creighton cruising to a 5 seed, Wichita in the 8/9 game, and UNI surviving the bubble. InSU wins the NIT, Creighton puts a scare into a 1 seed, and Billy Packer loses a few limbs as a side effect of pneunomia.

50% - The stock 2 bid scenario. Valley at least gets back to an acceptable level. Creighton and one of WSU and UNI break away from the rest of the Valley, get to the 2nd round of the NCAAs, and at least show the Valley has a pulse. Billy Packer continues to exist in this scenario.

20% - The 1 bid armageddon scenario. Creighton, the class of the league, becomes the new version of Drake 2008 and runs away from everyone, and WSU and UNI fail to separate from the juicy middle of the conference, and both bubbles burst on Selection Sunday, when Billy Packer shows up mid-show to maim Clark Kellogg on live television to take his spot alongside Jim Nantz.

I still say random factors and injuries will still have a lot to say about how the Valley develops...it has almost every year and currently several teams in the Valley (BU included) are just one key injury from disaster..

There is a lot time between now and the big dance but if I would make prediction I would say Creighton and Wichita would be going(Creighton winning the tournament). Northern Iowa would be going to NIT.
Well let me just quote the late-great Colonel Sanders, who said..."I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."

Northern Iowa has a much better looking resume than WSU right now and there is no reason to think that they couldn't finish 2nd in the MVC.

Yeah, but I think WSU has the best win, that being against UNLV, albeit at home. But still a win against a top 20 team that will return to the top 25 pretty soon.

Agree in that if any of these teams has a major injury to their top player it would be hard for them to overcome it, Creighton is definitely the class with Wichita and UNI playing for 2nd, I think 5th thru 9th is up in the air and the team that can defend their homecourt the best will stay out of the thurs. night game in St.Louis.

Who do you think is 10th. My choice hands down SIU.

it's already happening at SIU and it may cause some to revise their picks for 10th place in the Valley

Any at-large bids from the MVC will wind up in the play-in opening round.

Well, better than the one bid showings we have had in recent years.

And by bottom, you're referring to SIU and BU?

I think the league is pretty strong aside from these 2, and I think BU could still make a run for 6th or 7th if we show continual improvement.
