ISU's road game Wednesday (At Morehead) is going to be on Comcast Chicago and will be available on most of our area cable systems..
Morehead is down this year after losing Faried...
They have 4 wins but three are over NAIA schools...
But ISU has not been playing well - and they need to get more out of the starters...John Wilkins is averaging only about 3 ppg & 3 rpg plus 1-8 from the arc & 1 asst/5 TO over his last 3 games.

not an MVC game...
but Iowa State's Fred Hoiberg "revamped" his lineup and got better results..
Iowa State clobbered Prairie View A&M 85-59
Hoiberg's whole playing rotation changed - he started different guys..
and ex-Saluki Anthony Booker sat the bench the entire 40 minutes and didn't play...
"He made the rest of the moves to get the team out of its recent funk. ISU (6-3) entered the game with consecutive losses.
“We just needed to change things up,” Hoiberg said. “We needed a shakeup.”
It worked."
BTW -- I doubt there is any college basketball player who tweets as prolifically as Booker -- he has nearly 20K tweets
and often posts up to 20 to 50 new ones every day.....you wonder how he has time to study...plus more than a few are objectionable and would not pass at some Valley schools
The only comment since being benched...

Illinois State had a 17 point lead in the 2nd half, then let all but 3 points of the lead slip away. But they hung on for a 78-73 win at Morehead State. Ekey and Carmichael had good games, as did Nick Moore and Tyler Brown.
SIU not looking good at home against Western Kentucky- currently WKU leads 55-47-
Wichita State in a close game at Tulsa-
And in a game that started a little later, Missouri State with a slight lead in the first half at home against Oklahoma State-
And not an MVC game, but Illinois is leading St. Bonaventure in a close game in the first half. Sam Maniscalco has 5 points.

By the way, the WKU-SIU game is on the FoxCollegeSports network, and there are very few people in the stands in the newly remodeled SIU Arena, maybe 2500-3000 or so. I suspect the official attendance numbers will report more. The Salukis are going through some tough times, but the fans don't seem to be very supportive.

I know the fans aren't showing up there, but are their struggles due to injuries, player defections, bad recruiting, or a little of all? If it's the later two issues, unfortunately Lowery will be responsible for them. If it's just a young team, then the fans should be a bit more supportive, though SIU seems like they are far and away the least competitive team in the Valley this year.

Hidden in the SIU story is the soap opera of bad things happening down there and ther incredible frustration of the fans who really want Lowery gone.
SIU had only nine players dressed...due to a "depleted roster" according to their game release...
All nine of the available players played, Goff, Breyer, Whitt, Lindsay, Taylor, Early, Swan, Setty, Seck.
When SIU subbed they were using a walk-on and three freshman - all on the court at one time.
"Southern led, 10-4, six minutes into the game, as ..head coach Chris Lowery brought in three reserves, and the lead evaporated....
The same thing happened at the start of the second half. ...Minutes later, Western would exploit SIU's bench with its decisive 12-2 run.
During one stretch, Southern fielded a lineup of three freshmen and JUCO walk-on Kourtney Goff.
Those who did not play include SR Justin Bocot, JR Kendall Brown-Surles, FR Dantiel Daniels, SO Davante Drinkard, and of course tranfer Desmar Jackson...
although Jackson was hopeful he would get a waiver and play right away - but he DID NOT
Bocot, Brown-Surles, and Daniels are being disciplined for various things...Drinkard for bad grades...although there are some injuries
and nobody's yet said when and what is going to be resolved...
Bocot troubles...

And don't forget SIU has one player, Diamond Taylor, playing (maybe out of necessity) despite an arrest and conviction for marijuana posession which was never publically revealed until someone posted it on the SIU message board. Only after it was made public by the message boarders, SIU coach Chris Lowery suspended Taylor for a short time before the season began, but he was reinstated and has not missed a single game! This comes after Diamond Taylor was arrested, and jailed for residential burglery while a freshman at Wisconsin. He was dismissed from the team, and welcomed at SIU.
Taylor didn't help much last night. He had just 2 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist, and his poor defense was partly responsible for allowing Western Kentucky's trio of 2-guards, including super freshman Derrick Gordon, freshman T.J. Price, and junior Jamal Crook, to have great nights. Gordon scored a team-high 14 points and had a career-high 13 rebounds for WKU, and Crook, a junior with a career 3 ppg average, scored 12 points. Price had 8 points and was 2-3 from three.

I wouldn't pick too much on the Taylor situation - DT was suspended for 2 months and missed both of their preseason exhibitions...
and thus he got way more discipline than many past Saluki players have with their drug & alcohol arrests (Hare, Foster, Boyle, Tatum, even assistant coach Belcher, etc..)

Working down in Carbondale frequently, the fans I have talked to just don't even want to show up..they want no part of Lowery....it wasn't too hard to see this coming after last year's CLow buyout did not evolve. They are quite upset that this rising program has seen a precipitous fall.
I have always thought that SIU Edwardsville will overtake SIU Carbondale in BOTH academics and athletics in the coming years. The new academic and student dorms / housing / university park at SIUE are very nice. With support from the wider St. Louis area for employment...
I believe that in the years ahead, SIUE may be a strong prospect for the MVC. Attendance is one area that needs improvement though..

They drew only an announced attendance of 2,759 for their home game aginst Chicago State, and just 3,012 for Western Kentucky. And I watched the WKU game and IMO that figure is inflated. The newly renovated arena, which holds 8,339 people was only about 1/4 full.
