  • MVC teams' RPIs and Strengths of Schedule

The MVC is now the #8 ranked conference in RPI, as the Atlantic 10 has moved past them-
NCAA college basketball RPI rankings and ratings for 2023, updated daily for all teams and available historically for every day of the 2023 season.

The MVC Strength of Schedule is ranked #5, the highest it's been in several years at this point in the season-

Illinois State's SOS continues to be an embarrassment. It ranks 320th, more than 100 slots lower than the nearest MVC team, and more than 200 below the average MVC SOS of 118. And this was the best non-conference schedule they have had in the Jankovich era!-
    UNI- #9
    WSU- #29
    InSU- #41
    MSU- #70
    DU- #75
    CU- #99
    BU- #140
    UE- #189
    SIU- #216
    ILSU- #320

I can see "lesser" schedules in year 1 or 2 of a new coach just to get your feet under you, but at this point it is ridiculous.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

It's still too early for the numbers, but good on SIU for getting out of the 300s and WSU for posting a very good early number.

Today's RPIs. The MVC remains at #7 for now-

In RPI, SIU has dropped to #313. When was the last time any MVC team was over 300 this far into the season?

And SOSs- The MVC has moved up to #4 for Conference SOS-

ISU's SOS is at 324 today.

          2003-04 season
          Evansville

Evansville was #314 on Dec 8th in 2003. But you gotta take into consideration that fewer games were played by Dec 8th back then because the season started later and teams played fewer games in a season (by a couple games for the most part).

As was stated above, good to see WSU play a great schedule, with that great win against UNLV. As good as UNI, WSU and CU have done, it's interesting that the two best wins between the three of them are against non-BCS teams, WSU's win against UNLV and CU's against San Diego St. It seems like these three teams have about 12 wins combined against the Iowa BCS teams, though I don't how good either Iowa St. or Iowa will be this year.

We know BU's SOS will improve quite a bit after their game against Michigan, but probably not as good as the top 3 or 4 teams. But still very solid as usual.

It looks like UE picked the wrong year to beat Butler (though they did beat them last year as well). That win is looking worse by the day, as are CU's wins over Tulsa, and especially UAB. Surprising though that UE's SOS is not looking better after playing #1 UNC at their place.

And yes, shame on ISU red as usual for that oppressively bad schedule they played again this year! That alone probably keeps the Valley out of the top 8 or 9 conferences when all is said and done this year. Hopefully the fact that the Valley appears a bit more "top heavy" than in recent years will lead to multiple bids, despite the bad ISU red SOS and what may be a horrible season for SIU.

Look for BU's RPI to rise quite a bit later today.
We were at #160 heading into the game last night.
We beat a team on the road that had close to a #100 RPI,
and North Dakota (whom we beat) won last night vs. S.Dak. St. who had an RPI of 88.
Maybe we'll move up to 140 or so???
