  • Chicago Public Schools being closed

Their way of improving the academic performance of.....
"flagging high schools and eight elementary schools"...

    Chicago Public Schools CEO says...
"So many CPS schools are failing that new school leaders assembled by Mayor Rahm Emanuel
can only address ???some of the worst of the worst, not necessarily the absolute worst in every neighborhood,???
Schools CEO Jean-Claude Brizard said Wednesday."

So by closing the worst performing and lowest academically functioning schools - they hope to make their numbers look better!

Students from Crane & Dyett HS would be re-routed to Phillips, Wells, Manley, Marshall, & Farragut.

Here's an odd plea from Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel...

    (my paraphrase..)

"We know Chicago schools are crappy and if you have the means, you are inclined to leave to find better education
outside the Chicago Public Schools, but please DON'T !! - just trust me to make these schools better when nobody else
has done that in the past 5 decades of trying..."

In most cases the schools have not failed the kids... THE PARENTS HAVE!!!

However, it is not politically correct to say that, but it is true in most cases. Schools and teachers are an easy public scapegoat.

I would largely agree -- that it is primarily the parents' resonsibility to get their kids educated even if it means a few sacrifices...
BUT -- those who run the public schools and the government have largely contributed to the disaster and the entitlement sense that permeate the Chicago Public Schools.

efficient public education is gone forever - went the way of the $1200 toilet seat and the $600 hammer - soon to be followed by affordable health coverage after the government finishes messing with it...
Once the government gets involved to the hilt in anything - massive duplicated services with extra costs & liabilities, as well as all the graft & corruption and greed, and mismanagement of funds will result.
Funny how some private schools can supply outstanding education for less than half what the state pays for failing education (cost per student)

If you want less of something..tax it. If you want more of something..subsidize it.
