  • Games last night - UK demolished St. John's

A decent St. John's team looked like a DIII against Kentucky...

I have to admit the young players UK has can sure look good -- wonder if they will still look as good 30 games into the season when it matters...time will tell.....
Calipari played basically just 5-6 guys the whole way...Eloy Vargas - the top rated juco kid from last year who is a junior and has only two years to play at D-I played a mere deep sub role gettin gjust 5 minutes of mop-up garbage time at the end with a 20-pt lead.
Vargas would be a starter, key player, and a superstud at any other school!
Wiltjer - a 5-Star kid - said to be the next coming of Kevin Love - also got only garbage time.
In time I hope top recruits see this and choose wisely so they can play instead of benchwarming

    some other observations...

Wichita beat Fullerton 75-60, but the Shox look puzzlingly vulnerable as this game was pretty tight for 30 minutes before a trio of Ragland treys put the lead up to 14 - or maybe they were looking ahead to UNLV Sunday?
Unlike last year where the scoring was spread widely by the Shox, this season it seems only 3 or 4 guys are putting it in the hoop.

Oakland wins 101-83 with Reggie Hamilton getting 16 pts, 9 asst

How long before Detroit fans want change - they lose despite having a 5-Star and several 4-STAR kids playing

Ditto with Isiah Thomas and FIU - losing by 30 to Georgia State despite having 4-STAR $ 5-STAR players!
(Remember - FIU is where Brandon McGee went - 4-STAR big man who played under Kelvin Sampson at IU,
then juco and BU was pursuing. McGee is scoreless in 3 of his last four games and doing terribly)

WIU beats North Dakota State, and now have a 3-game winning streak!
Slo-Mo in action as the score was 55-51, Manual's Lawrence Alexander had 16/4

Loyola loses by 18 to UWM and is now 1-5, how long does Porter Moser get??

Detroit fans won't want a change until the younger McCallum uses up his eligibility. Fire the dad, there goes the son.

I know - but it's a good waste of talent..and fans may still get impatient...

on paper they are 3-5 but that's quite deceptive as I am sure you know...
Two of those wins were over non-D-I's -
one was a really bad DII the other a very weak NAIA team...
then the third win was a 1-pt overtime squeaker over woeful winless, 0-8 Austin Peay squad - who are getting drubbed by everyone

they are a tiny thread away from being 0-6 against a weak D-I schedule of opponents...

BTW -- their attendance is tanking despite having 4 & 5-Star players -

      The McCallum era....
      2009-2010 - 2536
      2010-2011 - 2474
2011-2012 - 1570 - on pace to be the lowest in decades

        For those interested...
Here's a picture gallery from WIU's win over previously UNDEFEATED NDSU...

first thing noted is that WIU has a whole lot more students at their games that we do -- kinda embarrassing..
plus several pics of Coach Mo, assistant Kyle Vogt, and Ex-Brave Billy Wright..

Good win for Coach Mo. What a great guy.

Tornado..I didn't see a picture where there showed a lot more students than Bradley gets. Maybe I missed it. I saw the one upclose picture of a few students behind a basket but that didn't give an idea of how many students were actually at the game. The total attendance was only 878 people.

Here's a stunner -- sites just updated and Western Illinois now is rated at
RPI = 32 and SOS =14 !!! (better numbers than 29 of the top 40 ranked teams)
2011-2012 Men's College Basketball Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Live - a ranking of teams based on their win percentage and strength of schedule (their opponents' average win percentage and their opponents' opponents' average win percentage) and sometimes additional or bonus factors such as game location or site updated every five minutes.
