  • We need a little spark!

After a pretty disappointing last 3 games of poor perimeter shooting, terrible FT shooting, and losses, the morale has seemed a little down this past week.

What changes do you hope to see in the next couple games from the team in general or from an individual player standpoint. Talking more about what we see from whoever is on the court - not necessarily changes we want to see Geno make.

    My thoughts:

    1) Jake getting out of his 3-point funk. His inability to hit open 3's is something we need to get turned around quickly!

    2) JP with renewed confidence on the offensive end. He was just chucking up shots toward the basket instead of taking his time like he had in the 1st 3 games.

    3) DSE stepping up on the offensive end. He was probably disappointed with his performance in the Chicago Tourney.

    4) Continue playing with intensity on the defensive end. This I thought was an improvement in the last 2 games.

I think that this is an over simplification, but the spark that I think helps the team is more shoots finding their way into the basket. From FT's, 3's, shots from the lane, etc. We aren't getting terrible looks, and I don't think our guys are THAT bad at shooting. We just need the shots to start falling!

No doubt we need to start making shots because the overall defense has been good enough to win 5 of the 6 games, that is the hardest thing to take in that BU could easily be 5-1 and we would start getting better attendance at home, 3-3 will not get anyone excited and only us true fans will be going to all the home games.

Truthfully, I have been less excited about BU hoops these past few days than I have been since Geno took over. It was painful to watch the growing pains that have started in the new era after getting off to a promising start (not that I expected us to be 5-1 at this point and knew there would be struggles).
My excitement level is bound to change though - HOPEFULLY by this time next week after we get a W or 2.

I'm also growing tired this last decade rooting for other teams do well in the Valley more than thinking about BU's RPI, chance to dance, and looking forward to future meaningful games.

While we long for the days of playing meaningful games in February, I'm also longing for meaningful non-conference games in mid-December, which we haven't had for quite some time.

Anyways, I may just have to wait another year for those 2 things, but I'm just growing tired of the same pattern.

I am with you little brave. I hate this style of play too. It reminds me to much of the Stan Albeck years.

              now help me out here...

all we have heard for several years is fans whining about being tired of the same pattern of never finishing higher than 4th and wanting JL fired...

now we have JL fired, and we have the hand picked successor and before the guy coaches more than half a dozen games we have the exact same whines and gripes of being tired of the same pattern..

doesn't Geno deserve a break for a few months or at least 'til he can go out and get a couple recruits?

Sure, I will help you out - I'm simply pointing out that I can't wait for the days when we can focus on Bradley hoops rather than on the rest of the Valley, rooting for those teams (since we're mostly all MVC fans in general) since they are in better position to make the dance or play in the NIT.
No gripes about Geno, and I never have - just stating that I'm in a funk the last fews days after the losses, ready to see the Braves back in action after a week off.
Guess you took it wrong, T.

I think a lot of people agree that we've been in the same pattern as fans, and that we long to end this long drought of not being able to even have NCAA Tourney discussion throughout the season.

And has the pattern been broken yet? Yes, there's only so much Geno can do with what he has in his 1st year, but he's standing boldly on the tracks, knowing BU fans are yearning for a winner in the near future. But I think my comments about BU basketball in general over the last decade (or more) are justified. The focus was not on just this year. Totally cool with the job GF's done so far.

I know we're in a rebuilding year, but until we start winning on a regular basis again, BU fans will remain restless. It's like waiting to satiate a long-standing hunger.

It was hard and painful to watch early as Jim Molinari tried to change the style of play and players after he took over from Stan Albeck.

That's how it works in sports. Tornado made a great post. Man, gotta give it some time.
