Did anyone see Reggie Hamilton Oakland tear up Tennessee last night? What a great guard out of Illinois thru UMKC to Oakland some how!! How could any school in Illinois let this kid get out of state?

I saw it...that kid was really impressive. Actually, the Oakland team is really impressive...well coached, good mix of inside and outside players, great fanbase.

The Travis Bader kid is a great story - unrecruited as a 6'3 150lb SG, accepted a late offer from Oakland, redshirted, grew to 6'5 180lb, and is having a heck of a sophomore season.

I also love that they play an unbelievablely difficult pre-season schedule, then roll through the Summit league after being tested by 8+ high majors.

You have a point there -- Hamilton scored 35 to lead Oakland past Cuonzo's Vols...and a few sites say he's really 5-11.......

Reggie Hamilton when he was a junior at Thornwood HS was under 6 ft, skinny and nobody at all was looking at him at all...
He was close friends & teammate of Trey Blue who is now with ISU..
They helped carry Thornwood to a 4th place finish in 2006 (2-classes) and all the way to the Supers in 2007 (the last year before 4-classes)....
(Thornwood has also produced Eddy Curry, Indiana State's David Moss, and one other NBA-er Justin Williams)

and despite that he averaged 18 pts, 6 rebs, 5 asst, and 4 steals as a senior - he was overlooked by just about everyone..

And not to mention, the kid is am A-student and now a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class award...

In HS, he wasn't rated at all in the Rivals database and wasn't even listed by scout.com..just goes to show there are hidden gems and diamonds in the rough.
He was leaning to D-II but got a last minute offer from UMKC, then transferred to Oakland after his sophomore season and has played the last 1+ seasons at Oakland..

BUT -- I think we are getting a player in Ka'Darryl Bell who is similar -- a pure point guard who can score as well......

I hope Ka Daryl ends up being that kind of player because he is a game changer!! The announcers said he was the hardest worker on his team also and a great leader...

Anyone remember this guy - Diante Watkins...the junior college PG out of Chicago that wanted badly to come to BU but that BU just never offered??

He is now at Robert Morris and here are his averages...
23 points per game, 7 assists per game, and only 2 TO

Another scorer out of a Chicago juco is this guy...currently hitting 46% on 3's

Diante Watkins never possessed the grades to sign Division-I though he did have some Division-I offers out of junior college. He was an NJCAA-DI All-American and has been very successful at RMU-Chicago.

Reggie was often overlooked first by Trey Blue at Thornwood, then by Josh Parker (former Drake, current Dayton guard) on their AAU team: The Supreme Kings. With all this being said, however, Hamilton did have multiple small Division-I programs offer him scholarships including UMKC (which he accepted), Chicago State, Loyola-Chicago, Northern Illinois, and Northern Iowa. http://www.midstatehoops.com/players..._hamilton.html

Hamilton was considered an undersized shooting guard in high school. While he was listed 6'2" he was really no bigger than 6-foot and had limited experience playing the point guard slot. While at UMKC he continued to play the off guard for the majority of his time there.

He left UMKC because he did not get along with the coach (though he had been the team's leading scorer as a sophomore and an All-NSummit League Newcomer selection as a freshman). Since at Oakland he's had an amazing career.

I've heard Brewster Academy is a very likely option for a prep year. This is the same school that Trey Blue (ISU), Dodie Dunson (BU), Kellen Thornton (ISU/Tennessee St), Craig Brackins (Iowa St), Blake Schilb (Loyola-Chi) and many other Illinois prep stars have attended in the past. South Dakota State is the leader though.
