  • My view from press row

It's been a fun weekend, and I'd love to share some of my thoughts.

First, Bobby Parker and his staff do a great job coordinating everything. He and his staff were flying all over the place, and they were fantastic.

Regarding the tournament, I have been to it in the past, but don't remember it being so awful. I have a litany of problems with it, none involving BU or anyone associated with it. No promotion for the tournament. No crowd. No entertainment during breaks or halftime. No bands or mascots - which I'm sure there's a reason for this... there was plenty of room.

If you bought a whole weekend ticket, it totaled $70. Not bad for eight games, but the average fan doesn't care about at least four of those games. Add on $10 for parking, and the average concession prices, and it's an expensive weekend.

I thought BU played better than the score indicated against Wisconsin. BU went to JP early inside, and he simply didn't finish. SS filled the box score (5reb, 3blk, 2stl, 6TO) but looked lost. That probably explains the four minutes of floor time against Nevada. BU held Wisconsin to 42% shooting and matched them 26-26 with points in the paint... but the talent gap was the difference here.

Bo Ryan complimented TB in the post-game presser...

The first 12-14 minutes against Nevada was the worst the Braves have played all year. WL had two fouls and two turnovers before I sat down, but rebounded to have a decent game. JP again couldn't finish anything - 3-11 isn't acceptable in any game. He is so big and active inside that once he learns to finish, he'll be All-MVC.

Obviously, Sticks was the star against Nevada, keeping SS on the bench. I'd love to see more of Sticks and JP on the floor at the same time. If Sticks can command attention, JP will be a lot better inside.

DS came in early when WL hit the bench, and didn't really do anything. He looks fluid, but isn't close to being the athlete that WL and DSE is right now. WL is so fast, it's scary.

17 of Nevada's first 23 points came off turnovers... as BU matures, that will change.

Big guards are going to be a problem all year for BU - Malik Story for Nevada couldn't be stopped.

Last night, I sat next to a scout from the Houston Rockets, who said that if TB was 6'8", he'd likely be able to play in the NBA. It's cliche, but it was nice to hear. I argued that if he was 6'8", he probably wouldn't be playing at BU. No offense to us... but he'd have been a big-time college recruit.

I'm sure there is more, but I'm still quite tired...

    Thanks for the inside info.
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.

I agree with you. Sticks + JP more often could be interesting.

      Good info, thanks!
