  • MVC Stats

The league stats are posted and up to date, but some Valley teams have only played one game and two have yet to play at all.
The Official Valley site counts anyone who has played at least 65% of their scheduled games (so DRuff is not counted), even if a player has appeared in only one game.

But if we look at the Valley teams who have played 2 or more games, then it is nice to see that
Jeremy Crouch is the leader in scoring at 17.0ppg, ISU's Dom Johnson is next at 16.7ppg.
Zach Andrews leads in rebounding at 11rpg, Eric Coleman is 2nd at 10 rpg.
Will is tied for the lead in steals at 2.5/gm
    and JC at 8-12 (.667) leads in 3-pt FG%
and surprisingly, unlike other recent years, not one Brave is in the top 12 in the league in minutes played per game.
So maybe we are deeper in some respects than some had thought!

With a healthy Ruffin, I think there's going to be a nice distribution of minutes. We legitimately go 6 deep in the backcourt. Up front still worries me, even with Sam back in the mix. Salley just plays way too tentative and scared on offense.
    Onward and Upward!

I don't know if I agree with that. One of the things I've been impressed about with Salley is when he gets the ball, he's making a move to the basket and keeps defenses on their toes. He needs to improve drastically at finishing (though he had a couple nice putbacks against DePaul). It is possible hesitation is a cause of that--but I haven't picked up on that. But I think overall he has been aggresive when he gets the ball.

I think we're seeing and kind of saying the same thing squirrel. Dave and Coach both noted the other night that he more or less just throws the ball at the basket, and I tend to agree. If he'd make half of his short shots he'd be averaging double-digits right now. Instead of just throwing it up there and hoping it goes in, I would like to see Matt take a page out of Zach's book and take the ball up with every ounce of energy he has every time. I think we'd see a 10 and 7-type line regularly from Salley, which would be a tremendous boost to this thin front line.
