  • Panic?

After reading the three pages about effort and losing, PANIC, is the word that came to mind.

People already calling out the freshmen, people saying Coach Ford doesn't have an offense, people calling each other out.

    RELAX!

It's the 4th game of the year. It's a new coaching staff, a new offense, new defensive concepts, etc. It's not going to be easy for BU to ever just show up and win games. Each and every contest is going to be a struggle.

Also, it's not knocking someone to say they are young or inexperienced. It's called stating facts. I think this feeling grew the past few years under Jim. If you say/said anyone was young or not ready.....some would claim you were slamming the player.

A critique is not a slam.

    RELAX!

I think this team showed some good heart in mounting a comeback. Obviously they did not play well enough over the course of the game. That is going to happen when you are playing a fairly young, fairly thin squad. That is not meant to be an excuse. I am sure Coach Ford is going to "get into" his guys today about the effort and execution. But we are young and thin.

I also don't understand why we have to wonder or debate the old regime anymore.

Can we please, for the love of all things holy, drop the word FALLOUT? Who cares about what might have been or what could have been? It's over. It does not matter who left, why they left, or what they are doing wherever they are. What matters is the coaches and players THAT ARE AT BRADLEY!

Don't panic. But also, don't be afraid to question or critique players and game plans. Just don't go extreme and say we have no offense, we have no bench, we have no hope.

We are watching the first steps in a long process.

    RELAX

Thanks JD for being a voice of reason in what is sure to be a frustrating season for some of us!

I'm enjoying the games this year, despite the obvious shortcomings in the team. And the truest test comes from my wife, who hasn't missed a game yet!! Let's just enjoy the ride and watch this team grow. It will take time...it won't happen overnight. Be patient.

There is the key! Give them some time. I think it's okay to say you were disappointed in the effort, or a certain call or play. Just don't jump off the tall buildings when BU drops a game.

This is a process. We are just in the infancy of it.

When every play seems to be throwing your body at the rim, missing free throws and jacking up threes, people are going to say we have no offense. Obviously, we do, it's just last night, it went on Thanksgiving break a little early.

No panic here, just wondering why we have a freshman continue to start every game and a number of players that don't get off the bench. That's all.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

That's fair. To me, that is fair and balanced questioning. It's some of the other, over-the-top, screaming that makes no sense. People act like we are the top team in the Valley and should be dominating everyone.

Anytime you have change, you are going to have some rough spots. A new coach, with another coaches players. Never the best recipe for success.

I would guess Coach Ford is playing who he thinks gives BU the best chance to win. Or perhaps, the ones he feels understands his plan for the game.

Either way, I still look at this season as the first steps in a very long process.

Who cares who starts.....SS played 7 minutes....many if not most coaches base playing time and starters for that matter on practice play.....I doubt any of us are there on a regular basis....I'm guessing if SS continues to play poorly someone else will start fairly soon...but goodness after a 3-1 record?

Just an observation and wondering why it continues. I kinda thought that's what a message board was for.

Yup...that's true...and the way SS played last night is the reason he only played 7 minutes......so no problem here. I guess it's only 4 games so I don't think it's "continuing" yet...it's a pretty short sample....IMO

I think it's a legitimate question that many fans are asking. Charonn Woods actually started the second half, and the starter (SS) didn't play at all until Coach Ford put him back on the floor solely for defense or to foul in the final minute because Walt had 4 fouls. I have a suspicion we might see some changes in the starting lineup down the line. Maybe not Friday, because we'll need to go with the taller lineup against a big team like Wisconsin, but possible in the future.

...and shouldn't we see adjustments and changes throughout the season? I think CF is gauging each players abilities.

Again, I think one of a coach's greatest strengths or weaknesses is whether or not he can make changes and adapt.

There are certainly questions about this team. I'm not panicking, I never thought this year would be that great. I hope to be surprised, but I realistically hope to see improvement from everybody this year.

It is going to take a few years, there are just too many pieces missing and not enough depth. We don't have a true experienced PG, zero reliable three point threats, and one legit post player. I don't see the three point shooting improving next year much either, and that is needed to win in college basketball. It will take a few years. It looks like from the recruiting thread we are recruiting some 3 point shooters from 2013 and beyond. It will take time. But I will say I did not like the defensive effort last night until the last few minutes. That play where a guy gets by the whole defense misses a layup another guy gets it and still only one guy is back? That cannot happen. We didn't seem to fight off screens particularly hard either. Maybe it is fatigue from so few guys playing and so many games. Either way, it doesn't matter it can't happen. Other than that not a terrible start to the year, we will have ups and downs this year. If we can be above .500 I'll be happy. I believe Geno can lead us in the right direction as I did with JL.

Also I think Milos needs to play when the offense is struggling. Defense is an issue anyway, and while he is not proven either, he is our best chance at a legit 3 point threat which we desperately need. Why not try it and actually give him the ball? I thought JE could be that guy, and I LOVE everything JE brings in intangibles, but I'm not sure he will ever be an above average 3 point threat from what I've seen on the court. I really like the steal after his missed 3 though, that is the hustle we need.

I am not ready to panic either. We lost a game where the other team got real hot from 3pt range. When a team shoots the three that well it is really hard to beat them. And yet we actually made a game of it.

I know good defense can take away some of those three pointers but I thought we played pretty good D. They just made the shots. It happens. If we only lose when the other team shoots 43.5 percent from three point range and when JP doesn't make a basket, we will be OK.

I like Geno's brand of basketball. We are not going to win the Valley this year but I believe if everybody stays healthy we wont embarass ourselves too bad. Next year should be pretty good.

Go Braves! And keep you chins up.
