I can understand that we were thinking that we'd beat this Wofford team by double-digits based on their last performance vs. Wisky. But if you throw that out the window, you're looking at a decent team - maybe a little above .500 this season. And as poorly as we played, we almost got 'em.
I admire this team for the fight they have.
Nobody but maybe DSE played well tonight, and that's why we lost.
Our outside shooting and free throws really were exposed in this one.
And for the 1st time this season, I'm really seeing that it may be an ongoing thing all season for us. Jake will get going, but to start off as poorly as he has (in 3-point shooting) is hurting this team.

I think I was fearing this game more than any other to this point. Didn't expect us to struggle as much as we did and be out-of-sync for the majority of the game, but it happened.
Hopefully we'll learn from this one and see some bright spots this weekend in Chicago.

I'd hate to see how good he shoots in home games, since that's where he practices. Let's just be glad this was an away game for him!

          Wofford

I really do not think this team we played was suppose to be a PATSY!! 3 returning starters from a team that went 21-13 and played in the NCAA Tourney and got beat by Jimmer and BYU...Is everyone thinking they are from the SO CON so they can't be any good?

The ONLY reason we lost that game?

We can't shoot and they can. It's pretty simple.......

How creative can our offense get when all we can do it make layups?

No point in freeing people up for open shots......when they won't make them.

If I was in a contest to win a car and I could shoot a 3 myself or have a player do it (a player that plays)... I would shoot it myself.

good shooters will, shoot well, pretty much anywhere, but will shoot better at home...
Average shooters will, shoot average, pretty much everywhere...but will be better at home..

If you are talking about Wofford, I was surprised to see that they were shooting only 21% from trey before last night.

They shot very well against you guys last night. (43% from trey).

yeh they shot well on the road..it happens....but its just an ongoing feud about whether a player shoots better at a familiar basket or not...stats say its a factor...obviously there are bumps in the road and peaks and valleys...but overall being familiar with the surroundings helps the %

Before the bad vibes on BU's 1st loss under GF, the previous coach didn't break 0.500 overall or in the MVC until his 4th season on the job.

JL inherited Gillingham, Gilbert, Robinson, Suggs, Faulknor, and Stewart and didn't break 0.500 in his first year.

Talk about FALLOUT, BU lost Granger, Tisby and Tucker in 2002-3 after Mo was let go!

                    Change is difficult!

Re grading GF's FY incoming players after 4 games, here were the previous coach's first couple recruiting classes:

2002-3 ...... Danny Adams (recruited walk on), Steve Marcetic, Chris Mroz, Jabbar Battle, Joey Paul and Ryan Sunley
Avg 0.9 ppg total in 2002-3

2003-4 ..... Kevin Jones, Michael Rembert, JJ Tuai
Avg 7.4 ppg total in 2003-4

2004-5 ..... Jeremy Crouch, Danny Ruffin, Patrick O'Bryant, Sam Singh, Lance Stemler and Montana Heirman
Avg 27.7 ppg total in 2004-5 (Best incoming class for JL?)

Wasn't till the 3rd year before enough quality recruits turned up on BU's roster after the last change.

Patience folks. Give it some time....Support your current BU players and Coach through the transition!

People thought the previous coach was pretty good and BU struggled when he took over as the history showed.

I don't care if everybody left. Les had to go. It will take Geno a while to dig out of the hole that they are in, but other than the Sweet 16 run the Les era was a disaster that went on too long. After the endless T's, the ISU Red sweep, and numerous L's in the final seconds, how could anybody think that Les was going to stay? The 800 people that go to UC Davis games will find out soon enough...
I was one of many here who was willing to give Les another year with a full roster. The key word here being full. And as demonstrated tonight, without SM on the Illini roster, they would have lost to ISU red (probably should have, but Sam saved the day despite the late turnover), plain and simple.

If Les stays here another year, we win that game last night with Sam. Does that mean we would automatically finish in the top 3 of the Valley? Maybe, maybe not, but we would have at least been competitive and finished in our familiar 4/5 spot, though that would be much better than last last year, and much better from where we will probably finish this year. Nothing at all against Geno as I believe he will do fine here. But that hole he has to dig out of is a lot bigger without Sam and RA then it would have been with them here.

I don't think Geno did anything wrong last night amc. He can't go out and play and make the easy shots that the players missed! And I'm not saying that coaches don't share some responsibility when the team loses, but he hasn't been here long enough to fully establish his system, and he doesn't have the players yet to run it. Maybe they play their way into better shape as the season progresses, but right now we are not there. There is only so much a coach can do, and I for one have NEVER heard of a coach anywhere in any sport getting criticized after four games, with maybe very rare exceptions.
