  • Too soon for at Large Thoughts?

Michigan Beats Memphis to look like an early season contender, Wisky a top 10 team...

If we beat one, are we on the right track??

Obviously, I don't see this happening, I'm still on the 7th to 9th train, but looking at our schedule, it's nice to see a non-con schedule that would give us that possibility. Really though, this gets me excited to host Michigan at Carver next year and do what we came very close to doing in 07 against MSU. I really hope we continue to schedule this way, and Geno did a very good job using his connections to put us in a nice place to use our home court advantage next year and at worst get a quality lost, but also the possibility to knock off a very good BCS team.

Nice thinking, but the schedule gets a lot harder after tonight's game, and we don't know how Geno's team will perform on the road. I still am concerned that our lack of depth, lack of outside shooting, and lack of backup inside players will hurt in future games, especially when we play teams with size and the quickness to defend our penetration. If we have to fall back on our perimeter shooting, it could be a problem.

I have not been impressed with our opponents ability to game plan against our weaknesses. Good teams do that. When that starts happening, things might get ugly.

But kudos so far. The team is improving and is beating who is on their schedule. And we should win handily tonight.

Haha, I don't actually think that we have at-large thoughts, it was more a nod to the scheduling and the fact we've secured a VERY good home game for next year through Geno's connections. The title was more to get attention... We will likely play two top 10 teams this year, and a very solid mid-major, a mid-major who has is fresh off an NCAA Berth, etc.

Let's put it this way. Even if we beat Wisconsin or Michigan, I don't think this team has enough depth and experience together to win consistently enough to put us in an at-large position at the end of the season. In other words, we can beat Wisconsin and/or Michigan and just as easily lose at Drexel or Drake. But even average to bad teams can beat a great team on any given night, and that's what I'm hoping we can do against Wisconsin on Friday night.

Who is the solid mid-major? Wofford?

Wofford is a solid team but this will be a down year for them.

I think BYU, Nevada, George Washington, and Drexel are all pretty solid mid-majors.

George Washington is picked 8th in their conference and we only get one of BYU or Nevada.

I really like having Wisconsin, BYU/Nevada, Michigan, and Drexel on the schedule this season!
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

I agree, but I think having those 4 very solid teams, is a very good non-con schedule. It would have been nice to get one at home, but it still will test us more than enough, as well as give us ample room to prove ourselves, were we in a position for an at-large.

Exactly......yajusneverknow. Win 2-3 of those games, decent showing in the Valley, and get to the championship game in STL.......

Nope don't see that happening until Geno can get his own people in. This really shows what he was left with. Better days are ahead.

So.....is DH going to redshirt? He doesn't seem to be contributing too much.

I really think DSE, TB, WLJ, JP, and JE are most definitely doing their part.

Maybe if the team as a whole starts making their freethrows, we win games like this. I guess they just need to start practicing at Carver Arena.
