  • ISU beats SIUE

the final score of this game .... -- ISU wins 68-38..
BUT this game was over in the first few minutes...as ISU scored the first 11 pts, and held a 34-17 lead at half.
By the end it was a 30 point blowout and yet...with three players suspended or unavailable...
short bench, but still.....one guy who is available didn't play, pretty much guaranteeing
that Nick Zeisloft is redshirting...as has been rumored.

Just a few comments on some other games from last night..

Max Bielfeldt still hasn't seen the court - a pretty sure sign he's redshirting as rumored - but since Michigan just landed Top 5 post player Mitch McGary - will he get any chance at all next year either?

NIU under new head coach Mark Montgomery drops to 0-3 with average margin of defeat of 32 pts...
Abdal Nader scored 18 (but he took 19 shots - as many as all the other starters)

Wichita State beat Colorado 67-58 and Colorado can pretty much field an ALL-NAME TEAM
all by themselves...Spencer Dinwiddie, Austin DuFault, Shane Harris-Tunks, Sabatino Chen, Askia Booker, Damien Cain

Illinois beat Lipscomb 79-64 - Sammy Maniscalco was again one of the KEY players,
He started, was 4-7 plus 6-6 on FT's, 3 assists and two steals, 15 points...
Sammy is aomong the team leaders in scoring, FG accuracy (53.3%), assists, steals, and FT shooting (89%)-

Tough break for Larry Eustachy - he got beat last night by one of their cupcakes, Denver 59-52

The Arizona/St. John's game was on ESPN - and the announcers raved over numerous players as if they could jump right now to the NBA....the over-the-top drooling was way out of proportion to the talent that I saw...
The gyu they raved about the most was St. John's Nurideen Lindsay, who occasionally looked good driving against Arizona's porous inside defense, but he repeatedly flipped up circus shots that were horrible but the refs kept bailing him out with foul calls.
But -- once he was wide open, he clanked bricks - was 0-2 from 3-pt, and had SEVEN turnovers + five fouls!!!
He was credited with 2 assists but I never saw one - and the entire team had JUST 9 assists for 47 shot attempts in a fast paced game.
God's Gift Achiuwa was also hyped like he was a superstar - but he had 4 pts, 2 rebs...
St. John's is a collection of incredibly athletic kids but I have to doubt even Steve Lavin can mold them into a real passing & unselfish team with each one of these guys trying their darndest to showcase their NBA potential!!
Once they get to Big East play - they'll beat the bottom dwellers, but any well coached team will prevail.

Florida State won but Lincoln College grad Kiel Turpin who was many people's juco player of the year...was supposed to step right in and help them, right??

Mark Turgeon was embarrassed last night on national TV- the 20 pt whupping they got was only part of the story.
The Terrapins looked horribly out of sync, shot terribly (starters were just 7-33!), and scored just 42 pts...
The game was a blowout in the first 10 minutes, and Maryland had just 20 points by the 15-minute mark of the 2nd half!
They didn't pass 30 pts until roughly the final TV timeout at about 4 minutes when Alabama had their subs in.

Remember Toni Kukoc's son Marin Kukoc? He still, after a redshirt year, looks to be working on his game -

Mississippi State's Renardo Sydney was 0-8 but the rest of his teammates carried him.

UConn's Ryan Boatright still sitting out waiting...

He sounds perfect for the NBA....There are a lot of guys making a living doing that.

I caught the last 15 minutes of the game (after the BU soccer game was over), and at times, Sam was the best player on the court. He will be at a size disadvantage in some of their future games, but I think he will be a key player for them this year.

I hope you are right DC...I just don't have a lot of confidence there. Like you said he'll have a hard time guarding some guys and then he has to stay healthy.
But Sam is a warrior so you never know.
