Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final
???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

So maybe those empty seats, and there were a relatively small number of them, were people who preferred to stand. I understand they sold a couple hundred standing room only tickets.

It was great to see the students show up and really get into the game, very happy that it was a sell out because the team really deserves all the extra energy that this type of crowd gave them last night and it was a great game , hopefully a lot of these students will get down to Carver sat. night and support their team.

2 simple thoughts to make impressive student attendance more likely from a marketer:
-Take down any barriers possible to encourage participation. Don't charge students, just make them present a valid ID for a ticket. 10 years ago they charged $1/ticket. What purpose does that serve? Plus, you had to make the time to walk and buy that actual ticket within the limited hours the box office was open during winter months.
-Partner with local establishments students frequent already (bars and restaurants). "Encourage" Sully's or Crusen's to offer discounted food/drinks after games with a valid ticket. Their going there anyway, wouldn't they be more likely to attend the game if they were saving beer money later that night?

The game itself was a success because we showed improvement, faced adversity, overcame it and pulled out the W.
As for the whole event being a success....I don't know what the goals where in bringing the game up on campus. IF the goal was to increase student interest, only time will tell. IF more students start going to games downtown, then this was a success. IF there is no change in the number of students going to games, then this was not a success.
My problem with the whole idea was that it potentially is a limiting venue. Only 4300(?) can get in there. That COULD scare off a lot of people from going. BU is a program that has more than 4000 diehard fans. Many people, like myself, who are diehard BU fans can't afford to be season ticket holders. Playing at the CC allows for a lot of people, who go to a handful of games, the seating to go and watch.
I have no problem with this being a once a year thing, just don't want it to go beyond that! Some see a hopeless end, while others see an endless hope.

Start doing that and you will see the student attendance and excitement level rise again during games.
