  • Robertson Memorial floor pieces

Thanks to all the scavengers who grabbed stacks of the fieldhouse floor during the game. They were supposed to be had after the game. Went down to try to get one with 20 seconds left and all I saw were splinters...great. Nice people finish last.

That's sad. Just sad. I wanted a piece of the floor, I remember going down to the old fieldhouse, tried to make off with a piece but mum said "no that wouldn't be right" hahahai

        Floor Pieces

I noticed several people commented on this in another thread, so I started a new thread.

Early in the 2nd half, I noticed students and other fans coming back to sit down with 2, 3, or even 6 or 7 pieces of the floor. I headed down with about 7 minutes left to see what was there.

I got one section. It was the last one there. I came back and told my wife they were out and she said a student had gone by her with two arm loads full.

It's too bad that no one thought to guard or lock up the pieces until after the game.

But, in fairness, they were available for sale last year.

we stupidly waited until after the game, like we were supposed to, to go get a piece. of course, by then, they were long gone. my seven year old throws a fit and starts crying. (and by my seven year old I do mean me!) anyway, thanks to the guy who gave my kid one of his pieces. it was appreciated!! shoulda went down once it was clear there was a free for all. it at least ended with a happy 7 year old.

And the true irony is that I would wager most if all of those students weren't even around when the Fieldhouse was!

Oh well, they pandered to the students.. and that is all..

P.S. JD- were you getting a piece of the floor that you once dusted? LOL

Now get off my front lawn!!

Not sure why they wouldn't have handed out a piece to each ticket holder as they entered until they were gone. Handling it this way seems to have created a PR problem out of what was potentially a very cool giveaway.

It's unfortunate the students got their hands on so many, my guess is very few of them will actually appreciate it for what it is and most likely throw them out when they clean out their room at the end of the semester.

I did clean the floor many many a time.

I don't know why current students would take 5-10 pieces. They never knew that building.

I to waited until after the game and you know the rest of the story. If ANYONE has an extra that would go out with the trash, please PM me. I worked many High School games on that floor and some scrimmages for the 81-82 team and would very much appricate a square you may not have any desire for. thanks

but it wasn't just the students -- as we were leaving our seats and heading out hoping to get a piece - I saw numerous folks who were way older than students carrying arms-full of pieces...
I didn't feel I HAD to have a piece and would have gladly yielded to anyone who wanted one for a souveneir - but seriously - why would someone really need 15 of the same souveneir when many people - including KIDS wanted a piece and were left high and dry.
I hope if anything like this happens again - they post an armed guard so the fans can feel they got a fair shake.

BTW -- I suspect there are still pieces available - maybe have them cut up or cut pieces of the bench seats and do this again properly?

Agreed Tornado, in fact I know a couple of kids on Facebook that even posted that they have more than 3 pieces and said they have no idea what to do with them.

I think people started taking them without thinking.
