DSE: Very good game. 21 points.
TB: 20 Points. 7 rebounds. Nice first official game back for him.
Eastman: Only 1-4 from 3, but he played well otherwise. 12 points for him.

    The Bad:
WL: Good player, but he struggled today. He should not be at PG.
Shayok: Very athletic, but couldn't hit a free throw and struggled.
AT: Not a good game for him today. We need him to play better, otherwise we have NO depth down low.
Good summary of the game. I seen a lot of bad things that I didn't like but seen a lot of very good things that I did like. We even scored a basket coming out of a timeout under the 2 minute mark instead of turning the ball over.
A win is a win and I'll take it

Taylor Brown 20 pts, DSE with 21

a lot of the sloppy, long rebounds on missed UMKC 3-pointers went right to them -- must have had 6-8 2nd chances that way
If we get a couple of those plus just make 2/3 of the T's we win by 20-25!
I think we have a great starting five that can compete with any team in the league. But our lack of depth will really hurt us this year unless some of the newer players can step up, which will probably take some time. Any team that heavily relies on 6 or 7 players runs the risk of burning players out quickly, but right now that 's all we got.

one problem that's obvious is that because of lack of depth behind Prosser - it's clear he's trying to avoid fouling --
he won't guard the baseline drives and UMKC got easy points that way and he won't even take a spot on the FT lane during a FT even in the 1st half - for fear of contact and an unnecessary foul...
So given all that - had he played a bit more aggressively he'd have had 20 rebs.

Scary that our top four scorers scored 65 of the 68 points. Lack of depth takes on new meaning there!

I think Geno really wanted to start the Geno Ford era at home with a win..... and he did everything in his power to make sure that happened. I'd expect we'll see a better distribution of minutes going forward, especially on the road.

Great win! Kudos Coach Ford! Thanks for showing how to hold home court advantage.

                What I liked:

                A WIN!!!

Pross is the boss... 17 rebounds but it seemed like 40!

DSE and TB being reliable and contributing

Jake-- his usual scrappy self and love that he hit a clutch three tonight. We NEED Jake to knock down more threes.

                What I did not like:

Walt playing point guard. I have criticized the staff since the first exhibition game that Walt should not be playing the point. Come on Geno...check out the stat line tonight and move Walt to the 2 guard where he is better suited to contribute to the team

Help defense was poor in the first half but improved in the second half.

Rushed shot selection in very unfavorable situations. Game film sessions should emphasize this.. This has been a common problem with the first three games.

IMO, we still don't close the game very well from the four minute mark to the end of the game.
                Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I agreed with all your comments and criticisms except for the last one. I thought we closed the game out strong, locking down on defense, not turning it over, and hitting big free throws. Also saw a few nice picks that allowed some easy layups. Frankly, I thought the last 4 minutes was just about the best basketball we played all day!

No problems with this win. Most important position was coach and I liked what I saw from Geno. Well managed game, didn't get in the way of a win, coached attitude and effort ... well done so far by Geno. Earned his extravagent pay tonight.

Re last four minutes: I should have clarified that my criticism was about clock management. My fault. I thought we were pretty good in the clock management area around the two minute mark to the end of the game. I also very much agree with you about the screens and the type of play being the best part of the game.

What about inserting Walt in the game which put him in the position to pick up his fourth foul with approximately 13 minutes to go in the game

No big deal. Walt was not good tonight. He'll be good on other nights, though.

Geez guys, did we lose this one? Maybe I'm just relieved to get a W vs. a D1 team.
Plus I had to leave when we were down 22-14. Our depth will come around as the season progresses. I think we will get much more out of AT, 2Yok, and definitely Walt.
In fact, expect WL to come back strong on Wed.
We started with a W, a double-digit win. Maybe I'll take away some criticisms after I watch the replay, but right now, I'm grateful wr didn't start out like a couple other IL Valley teams, whom I shall not reveal due to severe embarrassment.
And I'm reallly happy that TB & DSE are starting off strong!

A win is a win is a win....Bad wins are much better than good defeats.

Will always take a win and look/hope for improvement during a long college season...

Didn't get a chance to listen in to the game, but hopefully the Braves played up tempo, good fundamental defense, and with intensity. That should be expected from the Braves.

                              AT - Apparently WYSIWYG

Keep up the good work BU!

I'm eagerly awaiting the replay of the game today. Guess I could watch it tomorrow night late, but would have preferred tonight as it was the opener, and want to check out the Braves for the 1st time this season.
Was thinking since it was a late afternoon game, it would be ready by now.
Nonetheless, looking f/w to seeing our 1st Victory of the season!
I'm hoping for 15 total, so we're on our way!
