  • Official- Nate Wells to redshirt

It's official- per Dave Reynolds' article-

After evaluating Nate Wells in the two exhibition games and the practices, Nate, his family, and the coaching staff met Saturday and have decided to redshirt Nate this year. He will not play tomorrow, or at all the rest of the year, unless some emergency changes the plans.
From what I have heard, that was always the plan, but after Will Egolf's injury, and the rapid development of Nate, there was some thought of playing Nate as a freshman. But they all decided the redshirt was the way to go.

Also, Jordan Prosser is recovered from his wisdom tooth extraction and will be dressed and will play Sunday, as will Milos Knezevic.

Not surprising at all, but this is great news! The redshirt is in Nate's best interest and is good for the long run of the program.

      Definitely long term decision

Long term great decision, but I think he can be productive if needed this season either way great upside here, lets not forget I think this catch goes to Les?

Personally, I don't really care much for redshirting players unless it's for medical reasons. Obviously, most college basketball players should be able to provide more in a 5th year than in their freshman year......at least I hope so!

I think this is best for the team overall. Nate could have helped SOME this season, but not much. It's better to bite the bullet and have him be very good for 4 years rather. He didn't look very good in the exhibitions. I think Bradley will benefit long term from this decision. Look at JP. He redshirted a year, and than his first year playing helped the team quite a bit.

Right, but if JP gets injured and is lost for a season then his freshman redshirt was a wasted season IMO.

Maybe we should also redshirt MK and DH, because I'm not sure how many wins they'll add to our record this season either.

I just think redshirts should be saved for emergency/injury situations.

Good move for Nate and BU. Sometimes have to recruit kids who can play but aren't physically ready for the college game, or need more time to develop holes in their game. College ready big men are a tough find for non BCS schools.

PS I guess we should wait to see how Nate pans out at BU before we decide how to remember this "catch" goes to JL!
