  • Evansville beats Butler

Evansville beats Butler in OT 80-77. Great start for the Valley so far.

The most interesting part about this game is that Butler had the ball in regulation with 1 second, heaved it the length of the court to their center Smith, who put the ball in to seemingly win the game. About a minute after, the refs went to the replays and said that Smith got fouled before he put the shot up. He went on to miss BOTH free throws that could have sealed the deal. Evansville got a huge break tonight!

I've been following the Butler tweets and the Butler fans sure do think they've been robbed by home cooking

For the second year in a row, Evansville upsets Butler-
      Butler 77
      Evansville 80 in overtime

Colt Ryan with 23 points for Evansville, but only 4-15 shooting.
Andrew Smith with 21 and Chrishawn Hopkins with 22 for Butler, but not much offense from anyone else.

They can say what they want, but the refs didn't miss two free throws.

Oh, I thought they were tweeting "fire Brad Stevens!"

Seriously though, what a great win for the Valley, which tells me Evansville might be the "sleeper" team in the conference. They will be a dangerous team for whomever plays them this year. And this win will remain big throughout the season because despite Butler losing some key players from last year's national runner-up team, they still won't lose too many games this year.

Seriously, Evansville has got their number as they have beaten them twice now in the past two years, if I have that correct.

Although Im happy that the Aces beat a quality opponent since it looks good for the Valley, but they did the same thing last year and barely finished at .500 and in the bottom half of the league. So although Im happy that they got a key win, they still have 30+ games to play...

If I had to pick a team to be dancing in March I will still pick Butler over Evansville easily.

That's true, but even if Evansville finishes in the lower half of the Valley, at least the win helps the overall conference RPI. So it would not be a "wasted" win in that sense.

More lousy Free Throw shooting. Ryan could of won the game with 1 second left but only made 1 Free Throw. Then the Butler player could of won the game but missed both his Free Throws. 3 Free Throws missed with 1 second left. These kids need to practice Free Throw shooting more.

Surely Coach Stevens and the Butler players & fans haven't resorted to whining have they? Stevens remarks about disparity in free throws & "can't guard free throws", this news article saying the officials missed a call when Ryan stepped out after stealing the ball from Smith. Bush league whining from a team and supporters who usually get the breaks not give them away.

Short memories of their two "escapes" from losses in the Dance last year ? What goes around usually comes around and evens out over time.

GO ACES...............well in the non-con anyway

Butler is the media darling -- and they're probably gonna even get the media reporting it as having the game stolen..
