  • Bradley Legend Bob Carney Passes Away

Very sad news to share. I had the pleasure of getting to know Bob a little bit over the years. What a classy man! He will be missed by many. Please pray for Bob and his family.

PEKIN, Ill. ? The Bradley University men's basketball program lost one of its all-time greats Thursday with the passing of Bob Carney, the captain of Bradley's 1954 NCAA Tournament runner-up team.

Very sad news indeed. I had the pleasure of getting to know Bob and his wife, and they're tremendous people. I had heard Bob was terminally ill. But it is always a sad day to lose one of the all time greats. Unlike most great BU players, Bob and his wife made the Peoria area their home for the past 60 years, and rarely missed a home game. He will be missed.

Very sad to hear the news. I had the pleasure to meet Bob a couple of times during some preseason games. Prayers go out to the Carney family.

Bob Carney still held several all time NCAA Tournament records...

Most free throws made in a single NCAA Tournament game - 23 - still stands

Most free throws made in tournament - 55 - still stands..

He was also 2nd in most FT's attempted in a single NCAA Tournament game - 27 and most FT's attempted in a tournament - 70

For decades I have enjoyed chatting with Bob & his wife as their season tickets are right behind mine -- and have missed him lately --
Very fine people - and a legend at BU

I had the pleasure of sitting with Bob and his wife at the preseason gala a few years back.

Great man/Great player - told all kinds of stories about his playing days, his life, and his grand children playing basketball - he will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
