IMO, it wasn't necessary to bring up the criticism of Coach Les in the article. Jim is gone, Geno is here. Drop it JStar.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Come on guys... Let's not take this out on the players Most of the quotes from this article are coming from the scrappiest players on the team! I have always thought that the guards on the JL teams were given more flexibility in his system to make mistakes than the post players. I believe it was the UNI game last year where JP was unexplainably yanked from the game for most of the second half and I believe the team suffered from that. All this being said, the honeymoon is clearly still on with Geno and the PJS. Enjoy it while it lasts Geno!

I love the players & coaches and have ALWAYS supported them unconditionally - ALL of them - always, and the facts back it up........

But does this surprise you? In one way or another - criticism of Coach Les has been worked into virtually every single column by certain writers since 2002 when he was being ripped for being a stockbroker, when he withheld a bedtime snack, or "surrounded himself with people who preferred the expedient route to the principled one", even articles about good things always have to flash back to alleged failed drug tests and off the court issues...etc....

AND YET -- Geno Ford - just like MOST upper level college coaches - has ALSO had NUMEROUS player issues (drugs, weapons, arrests, etc....and he even hired an assistant who was still under show-cause penalty & probation for a MAJOR cheating scandal) - and yet those things never appear in any KW article (and I am OK with them never appearing but BE CONSISTENT!) - wonder why?? -- could there be an intense personal bias that drives his writing?

It will not end soon - better get used to it - and heaven forbid any more bad things happen this year (injuries, arrests, bad losses, poor shooting, etc..) because they will be blamed on JL also and the bad stuff with get dragged out over and over...
BTW - a large amount of the negatives in that column did NOT come from the players and do not have quotation marks around them -- hmmm....

I'd call that a little bit of a generalization.

Clearly the PJS did not like JL, and it is very evident that the PJS is gushing like a little school girl for Geno.

Whether some of us old timers like it or not positive critism most generally works better then negative.
The one thing I have noticed from GF is he is always coaching-by that I mean if a player makes a mistake he will take the time to tell them what they did wrong and then go on. I seen it Tuesday when NW must have done something the coach didn't like and he took him out but he also was showing him something on the side and talked to him for a minute and the other coaches were also involved but then a couple minutes later he put him right back in and was very encouraging to him.
This is just an example of what I have seen from GF so far and I really think for most people this works much better then yelling or completely ignoring the player.
I'm certain that the coach does his share of yelling at the guys but it really comes down to how "they feel they are being respected as young men and as BB players". When you feel that the coach believes in you then you will have a tendancy to believe in yourself and play much looser (I think we seen a little of that in AT-not saying he is the answer but he looked like he was enjoying the game and was trying to fit into the action)

One aspect of the article that I found interesting is that the players are talking about feeding the ball to the post more. I very much agree with this, but to date, I really haven't seen that from this team. I give them a pass on this for now as JP did not play against Wooster.

                    Nice points Beni!
I think Geno's philosophy may be that you don't call out a player for doing something wrong and embarrassing him. One guy's mistake is everyone's mistake and everyone should learn from it.

It's kind of a new philosophy than what we're used to at BU. I think coaching these days and teaching are on a more parallel plane than we might realize. As a public school teacher, the teachers that constantly are harping on students and yelling and being negative are just not liked by students. Later they may come to respect and appreciate them, but it's the teachers that are patient and give positive criticism that bond more with students, and mixed with the right discipline, they tend to get more immediate results. That was my perception in 7 yrs. as a H.S. math teacher. And yes, it has so much to do with adjusting to our society and situation at home that has taken a turn for the worse.

Let's hope the players complaining about their previous coach can produce on the court better than they did before. Time to put up and shut up.

Very much agree. All I ask is that the new philosophy works in the form of wins and that the players have a good graduation record.

So now are we going to expect a Top 3 finish because of these comments?
Gimme a break! It's just college kids being real. My interest is that they remain cohesive as a team - whatever results that follow - so be it.
It's not like they're claiming to be contenders in the Valley. I really like the renewed confidence and enthusiasm of our guys.

I think they already have. This time we didn't lose to a D3 team called Little Sisters of the Poor. Let's hope they continue to produce at a higher level and with a higher level of excitement than the past few years.

But this article was written by Dave Reynolds. We like him, right?

I think that the jury is still out on this one. I thought that the Quincy team from last year was a better team than Wisconsin Parkside. I had to look up our second opponent from last year which was Texas A&M Kingsville. We beat them by 11 so they had to have been a bad team. I thought that Wooster was a decent team. So IMHO it is too early to tell.
