Surely Coach Pitino wasn't counting on freshman Wayne Blackshear to be a key factor this year?
I am not alone in thinking he was a bit overrated.

He wasn't going to be a factor immediately, largely because he was coming off a shoulder issue (his other shoulder), and was still warming up to the game after having not practiced for something like 6 months. But he would have been a welcome addition to our 2-3 spot, as we have often struggled to generate offense out of the half court - as Card fans we're just looking for another Terrence Williams, heh. The bigger issue is Siva being out. PG is our main position of weakness, so ideally, we'll get some experience for oms eplayers that need it tonight.

Well I guess Butler is destined for a last place finish and the players have no idea what they are doing. Is their board in meltdown mode like ours is even though we won? LOL

IMO, this is no where near meltdown mode for us... Just because people don't like what they saw and have low expectations this season (which I deem reasonable and almost logical, ya know, since we were last the previous year, and lost our returning leading scorer and a starting big man...) does not mean meltdown. I don't understand how expecting few wins is meltdown, when there is a coaching change, to me, that's where expectations should be.

If people are expecting a 5-6th place finish and we don't get there did Geno fail this year? (I don't think so, but if those are the expectations people have, I don't see how it could not be)

note extreme sarcasm was used for this post.

I know you have a problem with what Bradley is paying Geno but, you must admit Beninator, if BU wants to compete with the top teams in the MVC they must pay commensurate with those top teams. Geno is getting paid similar money as WSU, CU, UNI, and even SIU I believe. Now, it's up to Geno to justify whether or not BU overpaid.

Finally...it appears as if Butler's lack of state-of-the-art facilities is catching up with them. Not sure how they even fielded a D1 team before.

Bu's state of the art facilites haven't help much yet.

You are very correct Braves4life. I have no problem with Bradley paying their coach commensurate with the top teams in the MVC. My problem is that we are paying this type of money to a coach who has not won a conference tournament as a head coach or an NCAA tournament appearance/game. IMHO, once a coach wins a conference tournament, and an NCAA appearance/win, then this pay tier is justified. Ben Jacobson must have banged his head against the wall after he heard about the pay scale of our coach.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I didn't see any BCS schools after him. I m sorry didn't know he was a big time recruit I just thought he was the type of recruit we have been getting.

sorry failed to see where you stated a BCS recruit had to state that the facilities made a difference....

BCS schools aren't any better at judging talent than non BCS. So just because they weren't after him doesn't make him any less the player.

Doesn't matter what he said coachdude. If he turns out to be a bad player are we still glad he talked about the facilities?

Facilities don't matter when it comes to wins and losses. They are nice to talk about, nice for recruits to mention, nice for fans to look at and talk about...in the end, they don't help a program win more or take the "next step".

Butler has some of the worst facilities in the Midwest and they've played in back-to-back NCAA title games. Facilities are way, way, way down the list when it comes to winning college basketball games and having a successful program.

Remy Abell said they did - but that's moot now..

anyway -- here's another surprising exhibition score...
Eastern New Mexico 76 - UTEP 64 and it wasn't even close, with Tim Floyd's UTEP miners trailing by as much as 22 thru the 2nd half and getting outrebounded 43-34 by a far smaller team...

Louisville struggled to an 8 pt win over their DII opponent, U of L was 1-13 from 3-pt (Kyle Kuric was 0-4)

Billy Gillispie's Texas Tech had to rally from behind to squeak by their D-II opponent (SW OK) 76-70

South Carolina trailed Ky Wesleyan in the 2nd half before rallying to win 69-59

and several other D-I's had close calls...with Morehead State losing to their NAIA opponent (Mountain St.) 84-69
