  • Northwood University- Rollie Massimino

Northwood University is a small NAIA Division II university in West Palm Beach, Florida.

They started up their basketball program in 2005 under Rollie Massimino, and last year they made it to the NAIA DII Final Four. This season, they are the preseason #1 pick in the coaches poll-

Rollie Massimino remains their head coach-

but I have heard he has had to take some time off because of illness, and another well known former Division I and former NBA coach has been helping out in his absence.... Dick Versace is working with the Norwood team.

Not a big deal Da Coach but the school is Northwood. Good luck to Coach Versace.

I had an email conversation with Coach Versace last season, and he said he would be working with his old buddy, Rollie - two characters that should teach the kids quite a bit!

Rollie is about to turn 77 years old... hard to believe the Villanova-Georgetown game was almost 27 years ago.
Don't putt until the cup stops movin'

I was there for a tournament that Olivet Nazarene played in 2007, Rollie was a little more subdued there than he was at 'Nova

After Villanova won the NCAA tournament, Coach Versace arranged for Rollie to come to Peoria for a Bradley function at the downtown Holiday Inn. Quite a night. Hard to believe it's been that long ago.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

I was there, too. I recall a big crowd, and fancy dinner, cheerleaders, and a fun time with Rollie and Dick speaking.

Northwood traveled to Maryland to face Mark Turgeon's Terrapins and almost came away with a win...

Despite Maryland shooting 51% from the floor and 50% (10-20) from 3-pt, Northwood stayed within 5 pts - losing 89-83...
Turgeon never was able to take his starters out and played with ALL five starters in the game right to the end as Northwood remained within 3-5 pts almost the entire 10 minutes.
