  • ISU's intrasquad Red-White Game today..

ISU played their public Red-White intrasquad game today...

    Here are their stats

they played roughly 4 8-minute periods changing the teams up then played one more 4 minute period..
and in the 36 minutes, well over 100 shots were launched -- about a shot every 20 seconds...and almost 1/2 half of all the shots were long range..and everyone got into the act..
only three players who attempted threes (Wilkins, Carmichael, Upshaw) failed to make at least one.

Jon Ekey (22 pts, 6 reb) & Jackie Carmichael (19 pts, 13 rebs) played the best

They were 19-49 from the 3-pt arc, and 50-107 overall

Seems to me they have improved their perimeter game a lot... Not many have talked about Bryant Allen very much. He looks to me to be the quickest guard of the bunch. And he can hit three balls. He is the player that transferred from the U. of Wisconsin as a two sport athlete - football amd Basketball. He got cross ways with the football coach and lost his scholarship - and no open basketball scholarships were available. So he is playing his own way this year. He won't be eligible to play until December....

It was the University of Minnesota, and he was reported to have been kicked off the football team and lost his scholarship for failing to keep up academically. So does the basketball team have lower academic standards?

“He didn’t meet academic obligations so we dismissed him from the team,” ISU football coach Brock Spack said Thursday.
When asked if the door is open for the wide receiver to rejoin the team if he improves his academic standing, Spack said,“No.”

BTW- here is a summary from the Pantagraph if anyone wants to know about the ISU intrasquad scrimmage-

        an estimated crowd of 600

I would think it's the fact that he has more time to get his grades in order for basketball before he could be declared ineligable.

Looks like the 'Birds will be bombing away from 3-land again this year.
I guess if you hit near 40% as a team, that should win you quite a few games.

intrasquad games sometimes have little defense....so it's hard to say how they're gonna shoot when real games start..
Looking back - last year - ISU was not only last in 3-pt shooting in BOTH the conference games and overall -
but they were last by a significant margin behind the 9th place

And just to remind- ISU shot 57.1% (16-28 ) from three in last year's scrimmage, and ended shooting 31% for the season (10th in the MVC).
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Also note that last year's ISU scrimmage drew 1000 fans, and this year's drew only about 600. (compared with over 2000 for Bradley on a Tuesday night)

Indiana State had a closed scrimmage yesterday in Indianapolis against the Indiana Hoosiers..

one comment on an IU message board from a guy who says he talked with someone who was there...
said that the Hoosiers "had no problem handling Indiana State"...
but it was also rumored that both Jake Odum & Carl Richard were held back and played only limited minutes due to injuries - but then we've been told that injuries cannot be used as an excuse...

If this is the case, then our expected #3 team (in Valley) is not as good as expected, and makes me wonder why the Valley is going to be a ton better than last year according to some Valley followers.

IMO, the Top 3 or 4 in the Valley are weaker than last year's Top 3 or 4, but the bottom half is quite a bit tougher than last year's bottom half.

Our scrimmage is not an every year occurrance and was also put together/announced at the last minute. I believe the attendance for Hoopsfest was actually very good. More emphasis is put on it (much like BU's scrimmage) and would be a better comparable for attendance if that is what you are going for. We could talk about student attendance comparables, but I don't think you want to go there.

How was it different from last year's scrimmage? That was what I was comparing- the attendance last year of 1000 to yesterday's 600.

It was announced that it would take place mid last week(for this past weekend). Not sure when the previous one was announced.

compared was a pretty operative word in that last quote.

Come on, compared with the usual attacks by ISU fans on BU, and BU fans on ISU, that was really mild!
