    ISU beats Nicholls State 67-50

Bobby Hill and Brandon Holtz both play for the very first time, but each got only one minute, so neither will redshirt.
Greg Dilligard got 20 pts, 5 rebs, and
Boo Richardson got 23 pts, 7 asst.

Previous leading scorer Dom Johnson was 1-11, only 3 pts,
and Osiris Eldridge was 1-6 (now 1-17 on the year) 3 pts.

Finally!!!!!! a win!!!!!!! and a win away from RA.....been awhile since they did that.

Not a good start record-wise, but the Redbirds played decently at times in this tourney. Boo Richardson got it together yesterday with 23 points 7 assists and just 2 turnovers. Eldridge finally scratched in a college game and he also collected 5 boards. Dilly had a strong game.

There are some things to build on, but it's safe to say that Redbirds played 1 very good team, 1 better than average team and 1 poor team. Perhaps this early season test will pay dividends down the road. This team has a long ways to go, but there is some promise, I think.

The newcomers: Eldridge, Slack, Richardson and especially Johnson have all made their presence felt. 4 of the next 5 are at home with the 1 road game being at St. John's. A win in NY would be a big feather in their cap.

I am sure there were many more by the end of the game, since it was the opener for the Florida State- SMU game.

Nice to see ISU win one. I saw some video highlights of Boo Richardson. He is fun to watch. Reminds me of little Carl Golston who played for Loyola. Anyone else remember him?
He had a pretty good career.

but of course.......Carl "Go-Go" Golston. He was jet quick and those were some great Loyola teams in the mid 80's

                Golston
                Andre Battle at the 2-guard
Andre Moore who led the nation in rebounding as a frosh
                last but not least

Alfredrick Hughes. he was a prolific scorer who was a 1st rounder with the Spurs, I believe in '85. They went to the sweet 16 that year and were a tough ballclub. Golston was the PG that made the team run.

Richardson to Golston is a good comparison and one I'd never heard before. good call Coach

There's another point guard who fits that mold, and Wichita State found out about him last night.

Royce Parran from Chicago State is a tough little point guard, and he along with his backcourt mate David (rhymes with Golston) Holston scored a combined 30 points incuding six 3-pointers to keep Chicago State close...within 2 points in the final 5 minutes or so.
The local news story in the Wichita Eagle notes the game was much tighter than people expected,

I remember those guys last year in Peoria. They lightning quick and play great together. They had me worried for a little while in Bradley's game last season. We won only by 10.

This Alfredrick Hughes was a card I remember his freshman year at Loyalo he once went 0-28 shooting in a game. I'm pretty sure it was against us in Peoria in his first game ever.

Does anyone else remember this and am I correct in saying he was 0-28? He also had some funny nickname about his want and need to always shoot the ball, but I can't remember what it was.

Funny how he turned out to be a really good player.
