  • Interview with UC-Davis coach Les

From PJ Star sports expert Kirk Wessler in his Jan. 10, 2012 column following 8th loss in a row at Drake-
"Yes, the Braves are better than they were when the season started two months ago. By a light year or two, they??™re better."

And from the PJ Star 4/26/12, Dave Reynolds-
"Fields and Grier both appear to be difference makers. If Bradley continues to add the right players around them, happy days may be ahead for the Braves after a long dry spell."

UC-Davis falls to 0-3..... Thoroughly dominated by San Diego St. 89-74...... But they're rebuilding..... or is it injuries?

Game summary of the San Diego State Aztecs vs. UC Davis Aggies NCAAM game, final score 89-74, from November 13, 2011 on ESPN.

I agree with Petey - they held within 15 of a top team, SDSU -- right on the heels of SDSU blowing out SUU by over 30 -
and in fact this game was as close as 12 pts down the stretch and the Aggies never gave up -- they played hard...
and they are a very young team - very few veterans....
they lost their top 3 players from last year and are going with a lot of freshmen and sophomores...
It find it a rather strange phenomenon that some so-called BU fans are filled with glee that Coach JL is losing -- but then this kind of sentiment clearly defines some of those folks.

I will say that however Les performs in his first year has no bearing on whether he is succesful. I was happy he got another chance and thought he deserved it.

That said my personal reaction when I keep seeing Les threads is I am sick of hearing about it, why is everyone still so interested. But that is just my personal reaction, if other people want to talk about it just as much as Bradley that is fine there are threads for each. I just think when I see the threads- "Again?"

Lets keep focus on BU present! More exciting!

Perhaps separate Forum, Ex-BU Coaches/Players Basketbal Fan Talk?

I guess some people don't afford Coach Les the same honeymoon that they are affording Geno Ford. Nope. No double standard here.

Not that it matters, but why would a BU fan afford a "honeymoon" period to a coach at a different school??

I don't think there is any such thing as a "honeymoon" period to begin with. In today's NCAA you don't have much time for a grace-period. Obviously if you take over a bad team, it will take some make-over time, but honestly, that's pretty short these days.

I, for one, am happy that BU won it's first game. No more, no less.

I expect BU will see more than a few games where we take our lumps. I just hope that over the course of the year we see improvement in fundamentals and the concepts of our offense and defense.

Hope is a good thing, maybe even the best of things!

I hope Jim Les does well in his new spot. I hope Coach Ford does even better.

No glee in Gleeville over here. I just think coverage should be "fair and balanced"...... All Les all the time. If posters choose to always bring up Abell and Les I think it's only fair to share everything..... the bad with the good.

I like Les, knew him while in college..... he's a great guy! I hope he's tremendously successful. If I choose to "tweak" with these comments it's only because some refuse to let these guys go and fully embrace the present. Continue the "love affair" in private I say. This is, after all, a Bradley message board..... Put it in "General sports discussions" if you must. Please don't be offended by my comment above Petey.... It was meant in fun.

Let me clarify this issue- the rules are already set here, and they are not up to the interpretation of each individual. We'll tolerate a reasonable posting of facts and opinions, but when the sole purpose of such posts is to be negative and berate or attack any players, recruits, or former players or coaches, then we won't tolerate it.

I only need to cite the kind of negativity that has populated certain other message boards like ValleyTalk, etc, that inevitably leads most users to stop going to those sites as they deteriorate into a small cadre of malcontents. It is no accident that this site gets thousands of unique visitors every day and over 6 million page hits per month. It is also no accident that this site had over 200 people online after each of the last couple games with many actively discussing the games while another so-called Bradley site showed 4 or 5 people online and nobody discussing the games.
It might make some posters feel good to get stuff off their chest with negative posts, but it drives away the overwhelming majority of message board users, most of whom visit to read but they rarely or never post.
Those are the fans this site is dedicated to. Those who prefer the negativity have the option to go join those misanthropes elsewhere.

I'm not comparing the two, just saying that we've been told we shouldn't expect anything out of Geno because everything is new, yet Jim Les loses and he is doing things wrong. Plain as day.

I agree with the first year comment. I'd hope people wouldn't make anti-Geno comments if our Bradley team isn't successful this season!

Apparently I don't mind the occasional JL thread as much as some do, and I certainly don't think anyone here is talking about JL "just as much as Bradley".
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12
