  • Exhibition Loss - SPU 69 - Arizona 68

highly touted Arizona (Top 20 in preseaosn polls) was stunned at home last night by Seattle Pacific University 69-68..in front of 12,000 fans...
but the game was actually a bit more embarrasing than the score indicates..
"Seattle Pacific led comfortably throughout the night.."
Arizona had not lost an exhibition game in 27 years...

    In other exhib games...
Southern Miss beats Loyola of New Orleans 88-53 - Ex-Chicago Lawndale Johnathan Mills
comes off the bench for 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Page Not Found (404): It looks like you're lost... The page you are looking for no longer exists.

Louisville beats Pikeville 74-55 - highly touted freshman Wayne Blackshear went 0-6 form the field but one
other freshman Chane Behanan was the star!

and in a Pan Am game - Blake Ahearn and Justin Dentmon helped the USA beat Brazil

Back-to-back bad breaks for Blackshear.......and a little controversy in Louisville over this one....

Blackshear is just coming off a 6-month layoff recovering from left shoulder surgery - then is reported to have injured his right shoulder Monday in practice -
But this was not revealed pubicallly- and subsequently Blackshear played in the Wednesday exhibition game with the injured shoulder...
By the end of the game after Blackshear had played 15 minutes - it was clear there was more wrong with his shoulder than anyone had thought --
now he's out for the season with a torn labrum.....,
and when reporters asked about the situation - Rick Pitino snapped back that it was nobody's business when & how the shoulder was injured and why he played despite the right shoulder injury that was quite similar to what he had to have surgery and sit out 6 months for.
There's an awful lot of threads going among Louisville fans heaping some blame on RP.

BTW - the Louisville folks are doubly bummed as they had hoped the Big 12 would pick them so they could bolt from the rapidly crumbling Big East but the B-12 selected West Virginia.

-UConn's top freshman Andrew Drummond was injured in practice - - Concussion & broken nose

-- In the SEC - #7 ranked Vanderbilt's top big man - Festus Ezeli is out 2 months with knee ligament injury..but oddly - he was going to sit the first 6 regular season games due to an NCAA penalty for accepting impermissible benefits over the summer...
Vanderbilt senior center Festus Ezeli will miss between six and eight weeks with the seventh-ranked Commodores after spraining ligaments in his right knee in practice.

Also in the SEC -- John Calipari is complaining about the media picking his Kentucky team to win the SEC - thus putting too much pressure and too high of expectations on his players....considering he's going to have to play with mostly newcomers/freshmen.
But isn't this a little whining and crybaby on Cal's part? -- I guess he wants it both ways...
..he wants to land the best recruits in the nation, and he wants his players to all be All Americans and lottery picks, but he doesn't want anyone to notice and rank them highly - and put too much "Pressure" on his players!

Kentucky lead Morehouse College 37-6 with 11 minutes left in first half. Maybe the media was right.

Hmm -- reading the stats & play-by-play and watching some video it seems this bunch of players gets maybe overly thrilled to be whalloping a hapless exhibition opponent

The story says Calipari didn't remove his starters and "clear the bench" until there were only 6 minutes left and UK had a 115-32 lead....

A good friend of mine was at Rupp Arena last night and commented on his Facebook page about the game. I stated there and will state here that I wish Bradley had the talent and the stones to run up an 89 point lead against a crap opponent.
                  Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

I'd take that but without the embarrassing showboating that took place by UK players in that game. I watched some of the game on TV and they showed ZERO class.

SEMO loses exhibition game to Harding 68-63...
at one point in the 1nd half SEMO trailed by 19 points...

Their star Leon Powell injured his knee in the first few minutes of the game and came out after only 6 minutes and did not return...he is getting xrays done today.
He missed the entire 2009-2010 season with a major injury to that same knee.

Cuonzo Martin and Tennessee had a close call also - edging Lincoln Memorial College after blowing a 23 point lead that dwindled down to only 4 over a short span in the 2nd half.
