Most of us know it isn't feasable to have an arena on campus, with the parking situation, etc. Most of us know it's wasting your time trying to entice students nowadays to make the long trek downtown free of charge and having a game in the new gym isn't going to change that. Most of us know that when honoring one of Bradley's all time great teams you should have the game played in an arena that holds more than the new gym does. Most of the students don't remember this great team, but most of the season ticket holders do.
While I disagree with your opinion about Bradley's attempts to increase student attendance at the games, I very much agree with you that this great team should be honored at a Civic Center game where more people who followed that team are likely to be in attendance. I have thought for years that the Athletic Department was out of the loop with student interests, however I think that this is a clear case where the powers that be at Bradley are out of touch with their fan base.

Only IMO, I didn't get the same apparent meaning.

I am a fan of the basketball team - players & coaches - and I support them....and they know it...
if someone chooses not to or wants to vigorously attack & criticize, then I support their right to do so, but I define a fan as being someone who is more positive than that. (see any official definition of "fan")
Some who call themselves BU fans attack the players, coaches and program considerably more than they ever say anything positive.

Show me where I vigorously attacked the team, coaches or players. I am opposed to having one of Bradley's all time great teams being honored at a gym that seats less than 5000 instead of Carver Arena.

What a difference 6 months makes.... For the most part, I think it is constructive for a person who is a fan to want to make things better. It shows that these people care about what is going on. I think that there are few people here who are more critical of the Administration than I am. However as a fan, I will complain on a forum that seems to be read by BU offiicials about the sub-standard audio system in the new arena, the lack of the Athletic Department to identify with the students, and the lousy decision to honor an all-time BU team in a small venue during a meaningless game. If these criticisms are not made, then BU can not improve as an institution. JMHO.

People were upset last year that they played an exhibition game at the arena because they wouldn't be able to get tickets because it didn't seat enough people. But guess what,we didn't even sell out that game, I worked it and there were definitely seats still available.
Even if they didn't save tickets for students for this year's game, I still highly doubt we will sell it out because people will assume they can't get tickets for it and won't try and will just sit and complain instead. IMO any game at the RC involving the Men's Basketball team, the money making sport for Bradley, should be standing room only. So to the complainers, keep on complaining, come game time I'd be willing to bet money you could still get a ticket and go to the game. Prove me wrong.

Were you around when the NIT champs of 1981-82 were playing? If you were you would understand why many don't approve of honoring them at a gym that seats less than 5000. Most exhibition games in any arena don't sell out or draw as many fans as a regular season game, but this is a regular season game, so no comparison. IMO, the only reason this game wouldn't be a sellout is because the parking situation is so bad in the neighborhood. I used to walk from W.Peoria to the Fieldhouse. Not too many would do that anymore.

Without taking a dig at anyone, as that is not my intention, I think that the current lack of news-making success by the BU program will make tickets somewhat easy to come by.

Hopefully GF can get to a point where he will have a full 13 scholie roster, and can start to work the program back to where everyone wants it to be.

Wow.....I don't recall anyone complaining about playing exhibition games at the RC. That's a little over the top if they were.

IMO, this event is not a success if there are unsold tickets!

By the way, speaking only for myself as an apparent "complainer" and "whiner", even if there are tickets left unsold I don't have to agree with the idea of having regular season and/or postseason games at the RC if the PCC is available.

Did anyone buy tickets today? Just wondering what section/row was available to judge how well the tickets are selling.

It would have been interesting to have made this game a part of the season ticket package, but announced that only the first 4,200 fans get into the building.
