I get it....you don't have a problem with any of this, but please don't say those that happen to disagree are simply "whining".
I don't post much any more, but I read quite often, and you've been "whining" (yeah, whining) about this since it was first being discussed last year.

You even changed your signature line to "whine" about it. If you don't want to call it "whining" we can call it whatever you'd like - *itching, moaning, griping, blathering, whimpering - whatever it is, it sounds like sour grapes.

As for student attendance at the Red/White game - I was around campus all week - there was little in the way of on campus advertising, etc. Not to mention, the students got back from fall break, had homecoming (with good student attendance for the lighting of the B, the bonfire, Soccer game- a team that is winning btw, hmmm), and (judging by the leaves turning a beautiful shade of golden brown) I'm pretty sure that its midterm season.

Add to the myriad of events/entertainment/etc that is competing for their attention that the greeks have chapter on Tuesday and this team finished in last place last season there are literally hundreds of reasons why students didn't show up. Some of them really good reasons.

Make sure YOU get YOUR tickets to the event and quit whining.

Sheesh, some of you are crying more than my wife would during an all day "The Notebook" marathon.

I added that line to my signature as a reminder of some of the crazy statements coming from the top. I actually held back as I easily could have added more! I'm sorry you feel it's "whining" when someone lays out the facts and happens to disagree with this decision, whatever the reasoning they decide to give for that decision. Besides, there have been people in the past that used their signature to quote our previous coach's inaugural press conference envisioning conference titles. I'm sure you had a problem with that as well.

I completely agree there are many reasons why the students don't/won't show up. Thanks for pointing that out. I commend the administration for attempting to increase student interest in the basketball team, but don't feel an on-campus game against SEMO is going to do that. Some people obviously disagree, but that's just my opinion. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I'll get my ticket as long as they are still available November 7. However, that will not change my opinion that a regular season and/or postseason game should not be played at an arena that was built for women's basketball and volleyball.

There are 1500 tickets set aside for students since this game against SEMO is supposed to spark interest in the student population. The student section at the Red/White game has been declared a disappointment by everyone who has made their opinion known. An announcement is made that one of the greatest teams in Bradley history will be honored at this game, where a good number of season ticket holders will not be able to be present. It seems to me this decision just continues to take a turn for the worse. If the decision to play this game on campus was indeed to make money on a game that wouldn't make money at Carver Arena, I beg to differ. I believe a game against SEMO, in which one of the greatest teams in Bradley history is honored, would do quite well at Carver Arena.

I agree that no regular season game should be played at the R.C. and honoring the NIT players there is a mistake in that some regular season ticket holders will not be able to get tickets, not a good idea to shut out your fans as my guess would be that they will not hold season tickets again because of this bad idea.

thus far -- given this year's Red-White and last year's scrimmage and exhibition...

Have you seen anything yet to make you think the place will sell out and season ticket holders will be shut out??

I sure haven't -- there were 2000+ available seats last Tuesday night

The information regarding the '82 team was released less than 24 hours ago. I'll take a wild guess that ticket sales will increase over the next two weeks.

Again, if Bradley can't sell out a 4,200-seat on-campus arena when there is seemingly new excitement and optimism around the program, then Bradley has bigger problems than I thought!

I believe this will be a sell out but not until sales of tickets open to the general public AFTER ALL season ticket holders are given a crack at getting tickets...

I know this game will be a sell out and I know not all the season tickets holders will be able to get a ticket for this celebration of one of Bradley's all time great teams. IMO it doesn't make sense to schedule a game in the new gym to entice the students to break away from all the other things they can do and then schedule this event the same day and leave some, not all, loyal fans who take time to make it to all the games without being bribed, without a ticket. If that's whining, so be it.

Thanks. I'm sure they read this board. If they don't I'm sure they are told what's being said. IMO they didn't put much thought into this decision. Looks like a spur of the moment thing.

In addition to the tribute to the 1981-82 team, everyone in attendance will receive a t-shirt modeled after the warm-ups donned by the Braves during the 1985-86 season when Bradley swept through The Valley with a 16-0 league record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
This giveaway item should be great. Though it is the 1981-1982 team that will be honored on Throwback Night, it is the 1985-1986 warmup suit that the giveaway T-shirt will be modeled after. My guess is that it is for 2 reasons- the 1981-82 warmups were rather bland white warmup tops, while the 1985-86 were wild colored warmups. Some fans think they are the "coolest" ones Bradley has ever had.
But also, the 1981-82 warmups had an Indian head logo on the chest with the word BRADLEY making up the feathers in the headband. Since Bradley is avoiding all imagery of native Americans, we will not ever again see these images on anything coming from Bradley. That is too bad.
And even though the Indian logo returned on some of the warmups later in the decade, it was absent from the one used in 1985-86,

                      1981-82 warmups-

I've seen & heard some "fans" say they are angry about this game and won't go - and others say they won't "waste the $20" to see it after buying tickets for the other games...

Then I guess I can tell where that "fan" stands...some fans wouldn't spend the $10 for spaghetti and a chance to sit and talk directly to the players, some wouldn't drive the 25 miles and buy the couple gallons of gas to go on the road and support BU when they play at ISU or anywhere on the road...

I understand because people do have a choice...

BUT -- after years that we have heard so many people complain about...

                        - Bradley should be playing their home games on campus

                        - and we should have better on-campus facilities

                        - and that we need to do something unique to try to get the students more involved

                        - and that if BU played opponents like SEMO in the 11,000 seat Carver Arena - that it wasn't worth going to anyway...

Now...we have the unique opportunity to have a game in a tremendous venue that will halp BU stay profitable instead of losing big time $$ playing poorly attended games downtown....
and those fans say they don't want to go even before many of them have ever been inside the building to see what it even looks like!!....

We have a separate forum for ticket sales.
It is also illegal to sell tickets for more than their face value.

After reading this post a couple times it became apparent to me that to you if someone has a different opinion than you on the new arena subject they aren't fans of the program. There are several who I consider great fans, myself included, who have been a fan longer than most on this board. Most of us know it isn't feasable to have an arena on campus, with the parking situation, etc. Most of us know it's wasting your time trying to entice students nowadays to make the long trek downtown free of charge and having a game in the new gym isn't going to change that. Most of us know that when honoring one of Bradley's all time great teams you should have the game played in an arena that holds more than the new gym does. Most of the students don't remember this great team, but most of the season ticket holders do.
