The New York Times is reporting Missouri's decision to officially apply for membership in the Southeastern Conference is "inevitable and imminent."
This again is driven by football money. It seems likely to hurt the basketball program, IMO. Missouri, along with the other new SEC member Texas A&M, will certainly get placed in the weaker West Division of the SEC, where there are few natural rivals for Missouri.
Missouri had been hoping to get into the Big Ten, which seems like a much more desireable move for them, but this move to the SEC would seem to make it unlikely they'll be consdiered for the Big Ten anytime soon.
