My thoughts and prayers do go out to Wheldon and his family though.

Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

I would say only a small percentage watch racing for the crashes, mainly the casual fan or someone just browsing thru the channels. Serious to fatal Injuries can happen in any sport.
Most fans have their favorite driver and love the thrill of the speed, power/noise and watching cars go over 150 mph with bumpers only inches apart. It may be boring to watch on TV but in person it's pretty amazing.
It's a shame that his whole family either witnessed it in person or was watching live on TV. Just a horrible incident overall.
