Well, what else is new? No respect at all for the true mid-major conferences like the Valley! But I personally like going for non-exempt tourneys over a conference challange like this any day!

You cannot replace this with a non exempt tour. because we are already in one, hard to explain why you would replace the Valley as we are one of the stable conferences left, we need to look at another conf. for this challenge.

Who do you suggest? A-10 would be nice.

Well I only said this because there will always be the bad teams in each conference, and those teams who get stuck playing them in a given year will not be helped by playing them. For example, if we get stuck playing a down Utah team versus a New Mexico or a San Diego St., what good would that do for our RPI? Granted, despite the loss of BYU and Utah, the MWC still has a couple of great teams, but there is no guarantee how good they would be from year to year. At least with a non exempt tournament teams can try to hook onto the tourneys that contain great teams. And without the MVC/MWC challange, teams from the Valley are free to try to go after other good teams to play instead of potentially drawing a MWC last place team in any given year.
Frankly, a WCC/MVC Challenge fits well. West coast exposure for the league.
Still, there's no reason the MVC can't have two challenges.
Also, there may not be an A-10 soon given how fun things are getting in the Big East.
Yeah, despite my previous post, I'm all for a challange with a likeminded conference. But as I said, if we play the WCC and end up playing Santa Clara instead of Gonzaga, or if we play the A-10 and end up playing Fordham instead of Xavier, what good would that do us? Only the teams playing BYU, St. Mary's or Gonzaga in the WCC, or Xavier and Temple in the A-10 would truely benefit.
At least without a challange, Geno could try to set up a series against an ODU, VCU or Butler, which would benefit us and the Valley more than a bad draw in a conference challange.

Well this wouldnt be an issue anyway, Utah is in the Pac 12
There are really only a few conferences that you could even consider doing something like this with: MWC, A 10, WCC, and on an outside shot the Horizon(only on occasion I would hate this if it was every year). Every other conference is either "too big" and wouldnt get into a challenge like this with the Valley or other ones are way below the Valley's level(ie. Summit, Ivy, etc.) Every conference has its bottom feeders and strong programs, its an unavoidable fact.

True. I was just using Utah as an example of a bad MWC team.

I think you underrate some of the mid-level A-10 teams, who provide pretty good value - it's the bottom of the league that is terrible.
Really though, every Valley team has 2 or 3 teams that are worse than a randomly selected WCC team. It doesn't kill an SoS. And there's always going to be a couple games in a challenge every year that doesn't end up helping anyone. That's the nature of it.

Those are good points TAS. I guess playing a challange against a higher mid-major conference would be more beneficial than damaging. But if the challenge is taken off the schedule, that would leave one additional slot where a coach can control his schedule by going after top mid-major teams (assuming we get turned down by most BCS teams). Gramted, yes, there is no guarantee that ODU, Butler or Xavier would want to play us home or away, meaning that at least with a challange there is a shot we can get a draw with Gonzaga or BYU. But we can also end up with a Loyola-Marymount or a LaSalle too.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are pros and cons either way we go.
