  • Dave Reynolds- Coach Ford does not like Midnight Madness events

Bradley coach happy to avoid one type of Madness

Just saw this... To a degree I very much disagree with Geno on this. This does not have to be done at midnight but could very easily be done on a Saturday night. The article mentions fan base but does not mention what an event like this can do for recruiting. Hate to break the news to Geno, but certain players can probably be seen out and about at establishments on Farmington road.
    Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Here is an example of one more reason coaches do not like these Midnight Madness events-

        @jdemlingJody Demling

Chane Behanan injured during Red-White scrimmage. Early indication from U of L folks - ankle injury.
        http://twitter.com/#!/jdemling/status/125010600555327489

Chane Behanan is a highly rated (5-stars) recruit at Louisville who suffered an apparent ankle injury at Louisville's Red-White scimmage tonight.

What does that have to do with it being midnight madness? DSE, WL, NW, etc could roll an ankle in Bradley's red-white scrimmage.....Just because it is at a certain time of night does not heighten the risk of an ankle injury or any injury for that matter.....:

A few other midnight madness news bits...

Not only did Chane Behanan injure himself - so did the top incoming freshman in the NATION, Austin Rivers .. although minor...
Rivers was hot in the first half of their intrasquad scrimmage but could manage only one point in the entire 2nd half as Seth Curry scored 28.

Creighton's Bluejay Madness made it on ESPNU.....one of whom was the Bulls' Kyle Korver

ISU had an intrasquad scrimmage (a "loose 10-minute scrimmage")...at their Hoopfest...and the scoring totals courtesy of 45otseoj are...
            "Carmichael 11, Cousin 9, Brown 8, Wilkins 6, Zeisloft 6, Threloff 6, Jones 4, Ekey 4, Blue 3, Moore 3, Hill 3, Allen 2, Clark 2, Upshaw 0"

..oh, and to show off what they've been working on -- Carmichael, Trey Blue, and John Wilkins won the DANCE CONTEST!!!

Other ISU News...ISU was still looking for one more opponent, and
the Pantagraph seems to think Jank is saying at least one freshman will redshirt.

And one sad note -- New Texas A&M coach Billy Kennedy has stepped away from his head coaching spot to seek medical treatment for an undisclosed condition.

              Slightly OT

Top Ten College Midnight Madness Events

The only way to welcome back college basketball? Showy events highlighted by dunk contests and sub-par rap acts. At least for most programs. Ten schools do this thing better than everybody else.

Another unfortunate season-ending injury the result of a Midnight Madness injury at DePaul-

Promising freshman Montray Clemons ruptures his patellar tendon during DePaul's Midnight Madness. This is especially troublesome for DePaul coach Oliver Purnell, since he's already lost 2 players, projected starter Tony Freeland to a season-ending shoulder injury, and freshman Jamie Crockett to NCAA eligibility issues.
IMO, there is a greater chance of injury at these early season events, since the players have not had time to become fully conditioned to playing at 100%, and yet they go out and try to impress the crowd with spectacular plays and dunks.

Here is my last post about things that can go wrong with Midnight Madness events. This bizarre dance of inflatable mascots was a part of Midnight Madness at George Washington University last Friday. Even the fans don't seem very interested.

They should just matchup against an intramural team of students from ISU, it would be about on par with the rest of their SOS.

I disagree here. The events at midnight madness might lend themselves to injuries like slam dunk contest, etc. Maybe the athletes are not in full swing of things at this juncture of the season and might be more prone to injury trying to do too much to impress the fans. And besides, it just would be terrible for a player to be injured in something not even related to playing a game.

Hate for a guy like TB to have a season-ending injury from a midnight madness event and then everyone would ask, "What if..."
At least we know that won't happen...and won't happen tonight since he's sitting out anyways.

Looking f/w to seeing you out on the court again TB! What a stellar season you and the Braves are gonna' have!
Stay focused, humble, hungry, and make the most of your opportunity, as you only have 1 senior season.
