Which Valley coaches are on the hot seat?

Funny how you talk of how secure Marty Simmons is...the guy has never finished better than tied for 5th and has a couple deep 10th place finishes...
He's 51-72 (23-49 in MVC never a .500+ season) after four years - JL was 62-60 in precisely the same time span, and had been to the NCAA and the Sweet Sixteen -
If Marty has a bad year and there aren't cries for a new coach, then Aces fans must love losing...
Janks destiny will hinge on just two games, and if BU sweeps them both, Jank will be gone because those are always the only two games ISU fans care aboutLast edited by tornado; 10-08-2011, 12:24 PM.

Jank will go. Why? Cos BU got a new coach to have a revival, so ISU has to follow naturally... At the end, of the storm, there's a golden sky. And the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain, though your dreams be tossed, and blown. Walk on, Walk on with hope in your hearts, and you'll never walk alone!
I'm behind you 100% Bradley Braves, You'll Never Walk Alone! BEAT STATE!

If the administration blames the recent problems on Phelps, they might buy out the final year of his contract following the season and start over.
I would say that Phelps' seat is considerably hotter than where you list him. Unlike previous recent Drake coaches who have inherited teams that finished near the bottom of the MVC for multiple years, Phelps inherited a 28-5 squad with 2 all-conference performers returning, and hasn't avoided Thursday night in St Louis yet. I don't know how Drake's admin feels, but the fans seem to think that this is the year that Phelps must do something.....and that injuries, suspensions, etc are just an excuse.

I think everyone agrees that he's a solid recruiter, but he hasn't proven his worth as a game coach yet.Don't putt until the cup stops movin'

never said it did -- I mentioned JL only for comparison of record to show how bad MS has done in his four years there.
..here's the same comparison to Porter Moser at ISU in his four years that got him canned..
Moser was 51-67 and didn't get a 5th year

I guess since you said "to my knowledge" that you must have something concrete to base it on. I'd just like to know. If there is info out there detailing the length of Phelps' contract, folks on the Drake board would be very interested in knowing the details.
Bottom line.....can you lead me to a link that says Phelps' contract is/was 5 years?

Here's a story on how buyouts are very costly and getting tougher on schools - it mentions someone we know...

This is similar to Bill Carmody at Northwestern. Sure he's the "winningest" coach in Northwestern basketball history, but with 160 wins in 11 seasons, and an overall record of 160-176, how much longer do you give this guy to move Northwestern up to the next level? Granted he has had three consectutive NIT appearances, but just one fifth place finish! And that was in a weak year in the Big Ten with only four teams finishing above .500 and Northwestern finishing under .500 overall! Not good.

I suppose I should change the article because I don't have a cold, hard factual statement on the length of his contract. I imagine if it was three years, he wouldn't have been renewed, and most schools don't sign for four years.Don't putt until the cup stops movin'

Liked the article, but as mentioned earlier, I think Phelps is probably at the same level as Jank as far as how hot their seat is.
