At this very late date, Northern Iowa was fortunate to land a decent additional non-conference home game.
They added a home game with Ohio on December 20, when Ohio was forced to drop St. Bonaventure from their schedule.
St. Bonaventure was planning to play Ohio on December 20 as part of a 4-year home-road-home-road deal, but they got a late chance to play North Carolina State
(St. Bonaventure hasn't played NC-State since the year the Bonnies made the Final Four in 1970) in a HUGE semi-home game at an independent arena in Rochester, NY
- and play for a big guarantee payday - so they begged out of the Ohio game, and tried to work an alternate date......
but in the end, there were no other available dates to move it to.
That left Ohio with only a few weeks to scramble and find another opponent and they connected with UNI for that same Dec. 20 road date.
They also get a return road game at Ohio in 2012.
