On the topic of young athletes with heart conditions - here's a sad story that shows how careful and diligent everyone was with Taylor's condition and how it might have played out if not carefully monitored...

This high school junior is said to have had a heart condition that prohibited him from playing competitive sports...so he wasn't allowed on the school's team.
The condition Taylor was evaluated for - idiopathic hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - is the most common such condition, but the stories never say which condition this boy had)

Anyway - he chose to go play basketball anyway on his own and collapsed while playing at the "Y" and died. Very sad and unfortunate story and shows how seriously these conditions need to be taken

This story isn't about Taylor Brown but something similar...

This story is about a kid, a solid D-I college basketball player who some said was an NBA prospect - who collapsed with a heart issue in 2010 and only now is finally fully recovered and cleared to play...
so he will have a final season of eligibilty - but he had to search like heck to find a school that would take him and let him play -
          he's at High Point University...

"..He will become the only Division I basketball player next season to compete with a defibrillator in his chest."

They mention a few kids who have played in college with defibrillators..but they fail to mention one kid who was the very first - Nick Knapp - a Peoria kid from Woodruff - who I am sure many recall or you know his dad, a long time basketball official and coach.

T not sure Terry was ever a registered official but he was one of the better coaches in this area. He was way ahead of his time. He was the first coach in this area to place more emphasis on offense then defense. He once told me," if you shoot the ball 100 times during a game and only shoot 50% from the floor your gonna score at least a 100 points." hard to argue that math. Worked many of his games in my career and trust me you needed a shower and a beer when done. I owe alot to Terry and wish his career would have lasted longer.

good to hear - I sat with Terry several times while watching local HS games - and although I never got to know him real well - and he might not even remember who I am - I enjoyed talking with him about local sports...
In one conversation that also included a whole pack of guys who were long time local refs - I kinda thought I heard him talking about some times when he reffed some FB or some junior high basketball
