I'm a realist, but I don't think it's that far fetched. If he really is the best high school player of his generation (read: better than LeBron), then I would think that he and a few other recruits would make any team a contender.

So any team in the country qualifies as providing the opportunity to win a national championship? Maybe his dad should have said "realistic opportunity".

But would we have to land the big fish first, or would we have to land some other high profile recruits before a Parker commitment?

OTOH, Parker isn't coming here so I am not worried about it.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

With the right players and the right coach....yes.

          • How about Larry Bird taking Indiana State to the Championship game.

If we were to get Parker we'd have a good roster for the 2013-2014 season...

            Parker
            Prosser
            Shayok
            Crawford
            Bell
            Lemon
            Wells
            Hodges
            Stewart

            with room for four more

I'd take my chances with a roster like that

We could make a run at it.

Most of those guys haven't played a minute of college basketball. Guess I'm just not ready to say that's a national championship team yet!

I know it's his dad saying it, not you, but 1 year and he's gone no matter where he goes, so why not BU? Have fun for 1 year and then head on up.
What part of illegal don't you understand?

Because they're looking for "a school that provides the opportunity to win a national championship". I'm not sure BU is able to pass the eye test for that requirement.

If he's as good some people say he is, then I think it's foolish to completely dismiss it. Look at what St. Joseph's did with a couple future 1st rounders and nice complementary players. Look at what Butler did last year without a 1st round talent.

Basketball is still a star-driven sport.

Completely agree on this. He's not coming to Bradley regardless of his ambitions.

                      • From an event just this past weekend in Chicago -

"Jabari Parker, 6??™-8???, small forward ( Simeon Career Academy )

I talked with Parker the day before, and he said he would not be playing. He
was not in the house for the Wolverines's first game of the day but arrived
about five minutes before their second contest. He got the okay to play and,
without warming up, was the best player on the floor as usual.

Parker has added more weight and become more athletic over the last couple
of months, if that is possible. He got to the rim consistently and dominated
on the interior. The play of the day for him was when he grabbed a rebound
and took the ball coast to coast for a bucket.
Parker went for 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks."

I still say what difference does it make if wherever he goes wins a national championship or not, if he's only staying 1 year anyway. Hey, just thought, the Braves have a good chance this season of getting a NIT bid. That's a national championship.

Not sure.....you'd have to ask him and his dad why a national championship is important to them.

I look forward to watching him lead the 2013-14 Bradley Braves to the national championship!

                              • Just got on after a few days of not checking in.

This talk of Parker coming is pure dreamland, but fun to imagine about. Just like it's fun to imagine our national debt being gone or all of us having indispensable wealth. But neither is going to happen, but it's still fun to dream. Probably why this thread has lasted 7 pages!

That being said I'd love to get him (who wouldn't?), but there's no way in world BU gets this guy. I would love to be wrong, believe me. But I say let's focus on attainable recruits who will be here for 4 years and provide us with a sustainable winning culture in the MVC. We're chasing a rainbow here.
