As much as I like that scenario, I don't think Bradley fits the criteria for providing "the opportunity to win a national championship".

I don't think it's a bad thing at all to have our name associated with this recruit and the other programs that are also associated with him. I also don't believe the Bradley staff is "wasting" too many resources recruiting him. I think I'll trust the staff to use their time and resources appropriately on the recruits they believe have a realistic shot at coming to Bradley.
???People say, ???Forget last year', but I want our guys to remember that one, because that will not happen again. We will be much better.??? Geno Ford, 9/22/12

I don't think a national championship is completely out of the question if a couple other recruits follow. Butler got there. With a little help he could lead Bradley there. It's not like we're trying to fill out a football roster to support him.

I know it sounds crazy but two mid majors did make the final four last year. Also, I never thought I'd see Bradley make the sweet 16 but they did. Let's just take that a couple steps further.

I don't think that either of them were bad teams the prior season.

            • Speaking of Butler, I just read that they added a top 100 recruit to their 2013 recruiting class. If we want to reach out with our recruiting, this is the type of recruit that IMHO, we should be allocating our time and resources toward.

              Bradley 72 - Illini 68 Final

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

              • Im confused here, do some of you think that we are only recruiting Parker from Simeons team? Perhaps we just threw a line out there and might have actually caught something with Parker while we were recruiting someone else on the team?

more than one way to skin a cat.....

                  • Also, to throw this monkey wrench in the system, there has to be an NBA season to be a one and done technically. From what I am reading/hearing the NBA owners are dug in for the long haul with this lockout and it could be a full season and possibly more lost to this lockout.

Just food for thought.... If the NBA is locked out for 2 years like was predicted what do the one and dones do then? Go to Europe to play?

                    • I am at work and I can't look at a lot of web sites right now. Did I see on his web site that he is Mormon? If that is the case, what about the possibilty of him going on mission?

Maybe I am wrong because you don't see a lot of black kids from Chicago that are Mormons. But I see he is looking at BYU and I thought he said on his site that he was.

Here is a nice article from SportsIllustrated.com about it-

I don't see how even a 2-year lockout would affect the high school class of 2013.

Agreed. If anything I think it would make them more likely to choose a school worth staying at where they have a chance to shine and win (not a good thing for BU compared to the Duke's and UK's of the world).

                            • I was more or less playing devils advocate, but if the NBA stays locked out for that long who knows if the fans would come back. They straggled back after the lockout previously, and if there is no NBA basketball for 2 years+, you just never know. The NBA is already the 2nd most expensive event to attend behind the NFL(which isnt hard to believe given the outrageous $$$ to go to an NFL game). Couple that with the economy, lack of interest due to not being around for so long, etc.... But with the casual sports fan being a zombie to the professional sports leagues, I have a hunch the NBA will survive, but you just never know.

Buried at the end of Reynolds' recent article:

Kendall Pollard of state powerhouse Chicago Simeon, a 6-5 junior forward, made an unofficial visit to BU this weekend.
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but this seems like a much more logical possibility.
