Not a pretty game and a few costly Illini turnovers, but the Fighting Illini held on for a 17-14 win against Arizona State who was ranked #18/#22
I have one question for anyone who saw the final play of the game..
With 4 seconds remaining and Illinois simply had to be sure they ran the clock out so Arizona wouldn't get one more play, the Illini QB took the snap and ran around in the backfield for several seconds then leaped and held the ball overhead to celebrate when the clock finally hit 0:00..
BUT -- wasn't that at least somewhat of a risky move - given that the game does NOT end until the play is over, and the clock running out has NOTHING to do with the play ending..
so had an ASU player clobbered him as he was celebrating and Scheelhaase loses the ball, then Arizona State could grab the fumble recovery and possibly win the game!
Instead of celebrating - should he NOT have simply downed the ball?
