If the 4 superconferences split and try and create their own tournament, they can hope to get a deal similar to the one right now - but the money would be split between the 64 teams and 4 conferences instead of 350 schools and 30 conferences.
In the eyes of the superconferences, the tournament is broken because the profit those 4 conferences can make from the tournament is not maximized.
That said, I agree with SFP; it wouldn't happen for a few years as they sort everything out. It'll be in their minds that there is a potential revenue source they could tap into.
As for BU specifically, sure, test the waters, but I'm beginning to think MVC expansion (the kind of expansion where we add Butler, SLU, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, and Oral Bob) may be the countermeasure.
