Well why don't the powers that be just admit that this is a big step towards the four 16 team "superconferences" that everyone is talking about. The sooner they realign, the better, which will mean a split into "D1-AA" for the rest of us. I mean it's obvious they don't want strong mid-majors anywhere near these power teams.

Football is driving this bus. So "strong mid-majors" don't even enter the picture.

They were just talking about that during the Florida vs. Tennessee game on CBS. According to Verne Lundquist it is a done deal Pitt and Syracuse are coming to the ACC.

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

That's fine. Now let's get the rest of the realignment done so that these lazy teams can make the "new and improved" 64 team NCAA Tournament every year! What a joke!

Exactly! They think it's gonna be the beginning of something great. In all actuality, it will be the beginning of the end. The end of enjoying a great tournament for a once great college game to follow.

And maybe after all this... maybe college hoops will be fun to watch again. (and I mean college hoops NOT including the BCS)

I agree. If the CBI and CIT were "previews" of what a non BCS post season tournament would look like, then I'm all for it. Of course those tourneys along with the NIT would have a lot more meaning since one or a combination of all of them would crown a true national champion for the non BCS contingent. And I personally don't have a problem with a Bradley/Butler or Bradley/Old Dominion type of matchup in a national championship game. And the Big Boys can take their egos out of "our" tournament and leave us alone as far as I'm concerned!

You want to know the sad thing? They don't even care about a new NCAA tournament that's exclusive to them. This is all about football, and what'll happen is after a split, they'll add this new tournament as an afterthought to all the other shifting, just to add it because they can, and kill college basketball as we know it, all the while only caring about the football part.

Very true. And the problem with the football side of things though is as long as they don't have a playoff system in place, what difference does it make with six major conferences versus four "superconferences"? I just don't get it, and already putting Nebraska in the "Big Ten" has killed several previous rivalries already!

Leave it to these schucks to take a good thing and ruin it!

Because in a 4-conference system, the four conference winners can play in a plus-one system that essentially IS a playoff.

These superconferences are actually a good sign if you want a playoff. The only problem is the main reason people wanted a playoff for in the first place (to allow Boise St-like teams a chance at the title) is actually going to be ignored in the final product. Instead of having a playoff to include more teams, the playoff installed will actually be MORE restrictive to non-BCS teams than the current system.

                        What a mess.

Also, reports of the Pac-12 about to become the Pac-16, schools lobbying to get into the ACC, SEC expansion, and Jim Delany with his head up his *** the whole time

Get ready for a wild 72 hours, I say. We could be on The Brink of the big movement now.

These big schools are going to end up fighting more with each other over losing teams to one another that I would not worry about the NCAA basketball tour. because it will always be the best college tour. , it is a huge money maker and no reason to fix something that is not broken.

I have to believe that they will not screw with the NCAA tournament for the time being. Now I hope that BU has a plan and is in talks with Butler, Marquette, Creighton, SLU and a few others. Being a part of a very powerful basketball conference brand should be the number one thing in our AD's mind! This is for long-term survival and the nice guys here will be an after thought.
