Yahoo Sports has a list of the best NBA players from the MVC.
They list all the players who averaged more than 10 ppg in their NBA career.
Best NBA Players from the Missouri Valley Conference
1. Larry Bird- Indiana State- 24.3 ppg
2. Walt Frazier- Southern Illinois-18.9 ppg
3. Chet Walker- Bradley- 18.2 ppg
4. Doug Collins- Illinois State- 17.9 ppg
5. Xavier McDaniel- Wichita State- 15.6 ppg
6. Hersey Hawkins- Bradley- 14.7 ppg
7. Jerry Sloan- Evansville- 14.0 ppg
8. Lewis Lloyd- Drake- 13.2 ppg
9. Robert Hawkins- Illinois State- 12.7 ppg
10. Benoit Benjamin- Creighton- 11.4 ppg
11. Dick Garrett- Southern Illinois- 10.3 ppg
I have a slight issue with their list for the following reason-
Walt Frazier, Doug Collins, Jerry Sloan, Robert Hawkins, and Dick Garrett never played a single game in the MVC. They played their entire careers for their schools (SIU, ISU, and Evansville) before they became part of the Missouri Valley Conference.
Bradley does have 2 of the top 6 players on the Yahoo list, and if we only counted those who actually played in the MVC, Bradley has 2 of the top 4 NBA players.
And although the NBA does not recognize records from the old ABA, Bradley also has a couple pretty good alums who played their careers in the ABA and had pretty good careers-
Leverne Tart averaged 19.4 ppg for 4 seasons in the ABA
Al Smith averaged 9.8 ppg for 5 seasons in the ABA
And these Bradley alums also had pretty good careers in the NBA-
Anthony Parker averaged 9.3 ppg for his 8 NBA seasons
Shellie McMillon averaged 9.1 ppg for 4 seasons in the NBA
Roger Phegley averaged 8.9 ppg for 6 seasons in the NBA
Joe Strawder averaged 8.6 ppg for 3 seasons in the NBA
