(for basketball, IMO...) the Southland is just a horrible move! Horrible!!!

The Southland???? That's pretty much a lateral move for them, if not even a step down!

Now if you said the Southern Conference with teams like Charelston, Davidson, Wofford and Western Carolina, I might have agreed with that move as they are a respectible mid-major conference with some decent teams. But with the Southland conference only fielding two 20+ win teams, what good would that do for Oral Robert's chances of even sniffing an at-large bid? Nothing!

Could not agree more and I also hope BU is thinking about a lot more then how to compliment the MVC, if so I hate to see our future in 10 years.

There IS a lot of geographical value for them in the Southland. Right now the Summit is really stretched out from Indiana to Utah, and the Southland is very concentrated in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas. And I don't think basketball is a huge sacrifice downwards, so the overall value is net positive here.

They're talking as if Air Force to the Valley is now a done deal if they go to the Big East for football.

Interesting. I'm having a tough time seeing Air Force in a conference where half the members are in Indiana and Illinois, but if you look at it, Creighton and Wichita St are better geographical fits for them than any other upper-major conference. WCC is too western, the WAC is too destroyed, CUSA is too far, and they're the ones that want to leave the MWC.

Andy Katz regarding Air Force looking into the MVC-
Air Force athletic director Hans Mueh called the WAC and Missouri Valley about possibly placing all its sports except football in one of the conferences with the expectation that the football team could be invited to the Big East.

I had some communication with the AFA beat writer for the Colorado Springs Gazette which I quoted on the site. He spoke with the Air Force athletic director on Saturday and said it was pretty clear to him that the AD wants to move to the Valley.

It sounds like the MVC is AFA's #1 choice, but Elgin has to be convinced, and that the WAC is AFA's #2 choice.

I haven't looked into the pros and cons by experts on this move, but I don't see many pros on the surface.

10 teams is great for the conference - don't see any rivalry that could be associated with AFA, and is not a great basketball school anyways.
I like the current setup and feel that every school in the MVC is a good fit for the conference.

If I'd like to replace any school it would be Drake, but I'm still ok with them. They seem to have the smallest fan base and seem to be the least competitive on a regular basis. I guess the same could be said about Evansville as far as competitiveness since joining the Valley, but their fan base is strong, and just on a personal level, I like the tradition of the Aces and root for them do well in the MVC as long as they don't finish ahead of BU!

I would lose Indy State before Drake. Drake's been in the conference longest and is a private school ally to us. I'm assuming this would be on a straight expansion track as opposed to a replacement of a current MVC school. Air Force would be a decent add, I think, but only with the caveat that our own school is more interested in Bradley interests than MVC ones at this time.

Still think we are either going to see BU aligning itself with a much better basketball conference or this MVC growth business id going to be nothing more but the same product. AFA does have a great brand behind it so it will not hurt the league IMO but on a purely basketball basis it really adds zero.

Pretty much completely agree with you here.

Adds a great name brand to the Valley, but I agree. In other news, what do you think of adding Loyola, Butler, and Valparaiso? I know butler would be big, but I have no idea where the other two play and if they would make a good basketball conference. We got an e-mail with a survey. I told them to move to Pioneer League in football and move up in basketball

Realignment has finally hit all the mid-majors in full vigor. Hofstra's president is reaching out to three A-10 schools and Boston U, and the A-10 is apparently expressing interest in George Mason and VCU.

Below the Football Bowl Subdivision, officials from more basketball-heavy leagues wonder which of their members might be poached and what colleges they might add.

This can eventually impact us in seeing what schools are available for MVC expansion, for A-10 expansion that certain Valley schools may become involved in, or even for a new catholic-based conference.
