  • Iowa lands highly rated big man for 2012

Iowa coach Fran McCaffery lands highly rated 2012 big man Adam Woodbury over offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Cal, and others-

Pretty amazing day for Iowa fans...after losing in-state talent such as Raef LaFrentz, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Collison, Harrison Barnes, and 2012 recuit Marcus Paige to Roy Williams over the past 15 years, it is nice to finally land a big fish. It was pretty sweet to see Woodbury pick the Iowa hat over the UNC hat.

Woodbury could definitely be a program changer for Iowa...they already landed his teammate from AAU (a 4-star PG) and a 3-4 star PF from Georgia, and are thought to have a top 15-20 recruiting class for the first time in a decade. Long way to go...but things are definitely looking up for the first time in 5 years.

We may actually have a reason to cheer for them soon... excellent! Was excited to see him down to Iowa and UNC... couldn't believe he didn't go with Roy!

How quickly we forget -- but just two years ago Iowa landed the Iowa "Mr. Basketball" who was proclaimed to be the big man who was an immediate starter & would revive the program...

But was UNC after Cougill? ESPN cited SIU, Indiana St, Loyola, and Green Bay as schools showing interest in Cougill. Big big difference imho.

Cougs was NEVER thought of very highly...I read Iowa message boards as frequently as BF and I don't remember people claiming he would be a starter. He was a bit doughy for high-major ball, and he had a penchant for only wanting to shoot 3's, despite his doughiness (is that even a word?).
