The NBA Players union also has some proposals - one would be for the 15 worst teams in the draft actually get TWO PICKS EACH before any of the other teams even get one...

..the union has proposed various changes to the draft:

-Under one proposal, the 15 teams with the worst records would continue to
pick 1st through 15th, but then would also have the 16th through 30th picks.
The teams with the top 15 records would have the first 15 picks of the
second round, then would have the 44th through 60th picks, too.

-Under another proposal, the teams with the eight worst records would get
an additional first round pick, beginning with selection No. 22, and the teams
with the eight best records would have no first-round

This doesn't seem like a great idea. Players at the end of the first round don't often contribute right away. Few players make an NBA roster after being drafted in the 2nd round thus I don't see why a 3rd round is even needed. I doubt this idea will pass.

One argument I have heard is that 20 or 30 players who fall just outside the 2nd round (kids like Andrew Warren, JC, Anthony Tolliver, Demetri McCamey) do possibly have NBA talent and then the teams all spend a lot of time, energy, and $$ bringing them in for individual and group workouts and evaluations...as some of those teams actually do possibly want those kids.
