  • Brand New Rivals Illinois Class of 2013 rankings

Just out today -- here's how it stacks up... http://illinois.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1260365

Positions 1-10 are ranked in order, the next 10 are listed alphabetically...

1 - Jabari Parker - hard to argue as he's viewed as one of the top players nationally
2 - Kendall Stephens - Purdue commit, rumored to be headed to La Lumiere - if so then he's no longer in Illinois
3 - Thomas Hamilton - hardly played this summer so this is a puzzle - some have dropped Hamilton in the rankings
    4 - Kendrick Nunn - verballed to Texas A&M
    5 - Malcolm Hill - considering Illinois, Mizzou, K-State
6 - Jalen James - verballed to Illinois
    7 - Billy Garrett, Jr. - DePaul
8 - Sterling Brown - this is another puzzler - hardly a mention on him over the summer - but I guess being the brother of an NBA'er has its privileges
9 - Jaylon Tate - still wide open but a lot of people think he wants to play at Illinois with James
    10 - Alvin Ellis

11-20 alphabetically- BU has offers out to several of these kids

    Jubril Adekoya
    Jared Brownridge
    Kyle Davis
    Alex Foster
    Marquis Pryor
    AJ Riley
    Gavin Schilling
    Nate Taphorn
    Xzavier Taylor
    Lance Whitaker

Being a very good basketball player has its privileges as well; kid can ball.

the State Farm Tournament of Champions in Washington, Illinois.

scout.com just updated their ratings after the busy summer AAU period ....here are the rankings of Illinois kids for 2013...including the kids we are most actively targeting...
this is how it sorts out IN ORDER although it's an automated list but it sure does have a few guys lower than expected....

You can go to the scout site and check for all the schools attached to each player - I have only cited a few of the upper ones..
You can debate all you want and refute the source of this info or these lists' accuracy but...these people do this for a living, are out on the recruiting trail all the time, and actually talk with the kids and the coaches.
They do make mistakes but mostly on the lower ranked kids that they just don't track with the same effort they track to higher rated kids.
But it's hard to say there's any better source - since I know most message board posters do not see the AAU events not talk with recruits or coaches.

#49 Marquise Pryor (Orr Community Academy HS)

Coincidentally, Rivals also ranks 49 players from Illinois in Class of 2013, although not the same 49 as they include a few more juco kids

Rivals connects Bradley to six of these kids - Cohn, Taphorn, Moore, Pollard, Ward, and Brownridge - but we're actually still active on only 2 or 3...

But I have reason to believe we are still targeting some other juco kids...... even DR who was listing numerous names last summer and even all the way up 'til
a couple months ago - has mentioned only a couple new names since...so are we playing "closer to the vest" now or what --- and why??

            Bradley is recruiting JUCO kids.

I have no idea if Bradley is playing it "closer to the vest". I personally don't think so from what I have been told. I know some people want an update every single day in the PJ Star but it doesn't work that way.

When there is something significant to publish I am sure it will get published. Just because something hasn't been released publicly doesn't mean people don't know about it.

Do you think Geno Ford knows how to recruit?

I know - there must have once been talk of him "reclassifying" (or "repeating") because they're not the only site that mistakenly have him as 2013

Serious question: Why did you put the #'s by the players above? According to your link the players aren't ranked. They are just listed by stars, last names and position played.

I used the scout.com search feature....and requested a search of Class of 2013 kids IN ILLINOIS and asked that it be
"Sorted by" RANKING...by THEIR ranking - not mine.
.. and of course I made clear mention that Rivals did not put them in the same ranked order

so they (scout.com, Dave Telep, Evans Daniels, Brian Snow, even Jody Demling and many others who are experts who work for scout.com)
...they are the ones who put the kids' names in THAT ORDER according to the scout.com ranking...

I didn't make any effort to shuffle them, those are the site, scout.com, ranks them...

Just so we are clear though.....you put the #'s next to their names. Not scout. Scout ranked a few players nationally (from Parker to Hamilton).

It's very deceptive that Dillard has a #10 next to his name, but then a guy like Gavin Schilling is way down at #25. Truth is, they are both 3 stars according to Scout. Dillard is listed higher because scout decided to list PG's first, and then there is the last name thing too.

After Hamilton, the #'s really mean nothing. There are 20 guys from that list that have 3 stars. Anyone of them could be directly behind Hamilton.

I have no problem with scout or anyone else. Just the #'s above. Sorry to nit pick that.

sorry it' so confusing....had I asked for the ranking according to ranking then presented it in any other order - then maybe you'd have cause to argue -- but if it's just that, then here's the list in the order scout.com ranks them....and I have removed the numbers....had I left the national position rankings that they provided that would have also been confusing and generated complaints --

But I have reason to believe we are still targeting some other juco kids...... even DR who was listing numerous names last summer and even all the way up 'til
a couple months ago - has mentioned only a couple new names since...so are we playing "closer to the vest" now or what --- and why??
First of all, saying AJ Riley is the ONLY kid Bradley is targeting in the top 50 is a ridiculous statement. As a matter of fact, #13 on your list..Keith Langston, was on campus this spring and may be getting ready to visit sometime this fall. And, as you know, Bradley was recruiting others on the list that chose other schools. You make it sound like the Bradley staff is ignoring Illinois prep players and only recruiting JC's. Finally, if they are playing it closer to the vest, it sure doesn't appear to be so, since almost weekly we get an update of recruiting information from Dave Reynolds.....

I am not sure most Bradley fans would agree with you.
For the record, Dave's latest "update" actually reveals no new recruiting names. He says Bradley has offers out to about 2 dozen recruits, but he only mentions 2 names of recruits who are still available, Sean O'Brien and Ben Moore, and both of those names have been known for a while now. This time last year, there were a lot of new names being reported, including about dozen new juco recruits who were contacted at a couple of the same juco events the staff attended this July, too. We know they are targeting some jucos this year, but that info is apparently being kept "closer to the vest".

How does one person speak for "most Bradley fans"? I wouldn't dare try to speak for an entire fan base.

Anyway...there is certainly more recruiting information made available now then there was in the past. From a fan perspective I guess that is nice in the off season but it doesn't really affect the ultimate bottom line of wins and losses.

As a fan I do not feel that the PJ Star or the coaching staff owe me any recruiting information. Anything I get to read/hear about I consider a nice perk or icing on the cake. Some coaches are more open with their recruiting, some are not. I don't think it matters to the final product one way or another.

I'm personally thankful Dave has been writing a lot of articles/blogs this summer.
