Our coaches believe we got the best point guard in Illinois in the class of 2012.
He is an extremely intelligent, great passing, point guard who can score as well.
Roy and Harv Schmidt, who run that site, accurately describe him and his reasons for committing to BU. This is a tremendous get for Geno, Willie, and the staff!

Congratulations Ka'DaRryl and welcome to Bradley.

On another note, can someone explain to me why we continue to go after so many guards? It is early, but this is starting to look eerily similar to the previous regime's recruiting. It is time to GO BIG!!!!!!!!!!

???It??™s awful hard,??™??™ said Illini freshman guard D.J. Richardson, the former Central High School guard who played prep school ball a few miles from here and fought back tears outside the locker room. ???It??™s a hometown thing. It??™s bragging rights.??™

Ben -- this year's roster has...

JUST four scholarship players who will exclusively play guard (DSE, Walt, Donivine, Jalen)
              Jake plays G/F
and the rest are definitely NOT guards (TB, Will E, AT, Milos, Jordan, AShayok, Devon)
...so we probably have the smallest percentage of players who are guards in the entire MVC.

Even next year in 2012-2013...the only player thus far bringing in for sure is Bell -- but of the next FOUR players who will graduate after this season - three are guards and Milos really isn't a post player either...

I'd say the reason we go after and offer a lot of good guards is because EVERYONE ELSE is doing the exact same thing and if we don't do it we're gonna get shut out.
BTW -- we also have offers out to Alex Foster, Darius Paul, Nate Taphorn, and several other big men..

Everyone at every level has trouble getting good big men. There are maybe 10 "good" NBA centers! There just aren't as many big men. I'm sure they are going after big men as well.

At this time, I will settle for true forwards. (not guards converted to forwards) A true center would be a bonus.

If we have to rely on Jake to play substantial minutes at forward this year, then we are in trouble. Jake should only be playing guard which means that we have 5 guards on this roster. If everyone stays, that means we have 6 guards next year. Way too many. Also, how many of these guards have proven to be a three point threat at the division 1 level? DSE is probably the only guard we have to date that has proven to be consistent with the three.

As for the rest of the team, while on paper the percentages may state that we have the least number of guards in the MVC, the players we have left aside from JP an TB, have not proven anything at the division 1 level. To date, we can not rely on AT and MK, and the rest of the players are young. We really have no team depth outside of guard. Yet we are still recruiting guards

We are no longer recruiting guards for 2012. The only guards we are now recruiting are 2013 and 2014 guards.

Very happy getting another player out of the Chicago suburbs, now lets get the juco big we need for next season and we will have had 2 good years in a row recruiting. Congratulations to our staff for the hard work they are putting in as it is paying off.

I don't really want to get into an argument because if you want less guards, then that's your prerogative...there are a few teams here and there that go with 5 guards, but a cursory look will show that 95% of D-I programs have at least 6-7 scholarship guards...

but -- this one is a slam dunk easy case to refute...
I checked a handful of other top programs, here's what I found..

                            In the MVC
                            Wichita State - 7 scholarship guards - http://www.goshockers.com/SportSelec...00&SPSID=61183
                            Creighton - 7 scholarship guards - http://www.gocreighton.com/SportSele...69&SPSID=89384
Last year's NCAA representative Indiana State - 7/8 scholarship guards
UNI the year they made it to the Sweet Sixteen - 7 scholarship guards - http://www.unipanthers.com/SportSele...&Q_SEASON=2009
                            UNI this year - eight - http://www.unipanthers.com/SportSele...&Q_SEASON=2009

In fact, I really can't find ever that any recent MVC team had 6 or fewer guards...so if that's too many, or as you say "way too many" then why is everyone stacking up on 6, 7 or even 8 guards?

I checked a couple Big Ten schools
Illinois has eight guards (Sam, DJ, Bertrand, Paul, Head, Abrams, Henry, Langford)
Even Wisconsin - who generally stock up on the big bruisers - have Brust, Smith, Marshall, Evans, Taylor, Jackson, and Gasser...

The only rosters anywhere I can find with even six guards are programs who UNEXPECTEDLY lost players (like Michigan State) and are stuck with only six despite wanting desperately to have more.
It is actually quite hard to find someone with only 5 guards who fully seem to have planned it that way!
